On the subject of phones, how about variations of the Bob Newhart-style conversation where we only get to hear one side of the conversation, as in:
Marilyn hasn't shown up at the lawyer's office yet?
(PAUSE)
And you already called Bill's? (PAUSE)
What did he say?
(PAUSE)
He hasn't seen her either.
(PAUSE) So, John's getting nervous?
(PAUSE)
He's going to call the police...If I'm not mistaken, the conversation must have gone like this:
"Marilyn hasn't shown up at the lawyer's office yet."
"Marilyn hasn't shown up at the lawyer's office yet?"
"No, and I've already called Bill's."
"And you already called Bill's?"
"Yes."
"What did he say?"
"He hasn't seen her either."
"He hasn't seen her either."
"John's getting pretty nervous about this."
"So, John's getting nervous?"
"Yes, he's going to call the police."
"He's going to call the police..."so true

how about the grotesque size and layout of apartments used in movies and tv.
They never show a small shitty apartment. When the apartment is shitty it is the type of shittyness that could be taken care of effortlessly bringing all kinds of character into a now killer apartment.

On programs like One Tree Hill and the OC, the characters are too old to be in school and their parents are only 10yrs older than them?!

(Oct 17 07, 01:34)I can answer a lot of these questions. To answer yours, the reason this occurs is b/c of child labour laws. Children under a certain age can only work a certain number of hours without parental consent.

a friend of mine is a major csi fan and she told (read it somewhere) me that the creators of csi guarantee that all the technology they use in the show exists... only it usually takes longer than on the show, for obvious reasons....
