I can't stand Bush. I'm very glad that his term is up in the near future.
Oh wait, I'm a Christian, so I must be a Bush-loving, right wing, Muslim hating, homophobic asshole.
You really got me there//

good times when people here have no coherent response to offer and just start taking the piss to make themselves feel better.

what is the point of disproving something you can't prove?

(Oct 13 07, 13:16)This is the very same question I was asking. I've never claimed to be able to prove matters of faith beyond a reasonable doubt. That's why faith is something that is given, not found. I didn't find Christ on a shelf in the religious supermarket, he found me. You guys just can't seem to deal with the notion that such a thing might be possible.
Atheists are every bit as dogmatic as the most wild-eyed, snake handling, Montana militia members. Now show me an agnostic and I'll show you someone who may not have faith, but has at least thought things through a bit more thoroughly.

right on edd-e, thanks for proving my point.

But seriously which religion is the right one? I mean, if I pick one over the other is it like shootin craps? or are they all right and everyone is in an unnecessary pissing match?

whatever you might think about the bible, jesus was pretty cool. as demonstrated by this:

Point5,
Yes, if you pick the wrong religion, you will go straight to hell.
If you pick the wrong branch of the right religion, you will go straight to hell.
If you make mistakes in the practice of the correct religion, you will go to hell.
If your belief in the correct religion ever wavers, you will go to hell.
So, chances are, you're going to hell. But you knew that, or why would you be asking about religion?
:lol

(Oct 15 07, 02:52)Wrong on all counts except the first, and even that is a watered-down description you are offering. The only thing that matters is recognizing our unsalvageable corruption, that none of us deserve to go to heaven in the first place, that we need divine help to avoid the fate you state above, and that the only person/entity that can help in that regard is God through the sacrifice of Christ his son.
That is all that matters. Everything else is relatively superfluous in the grand scheme of things. It ultimately does not matter if you are Catholic or Protestant.
Making mistakes is something I do every day. Because of the cross, I do not have to go to hell in spite of the fact that I will not be sinless in this life. There has only been one person in all of history who lived a flawless life. It's only through Christ living in me that I am capable of doing anything that is truly good, selfless and loving. He has and will continue to transform me into a better person. Everything good that I do is motivated out of gratitude. He perfects his salvation in us, not the other way around. Salvation comes first, good deeds second. Good deeds are a result of salvation, never an aid in the saving of my soul. The salvation part was taken care of once and for all, some two thousand years ago. All biblical teaching flows from this one command: love God and love your neighbor as much as you love yourself.
Making rules above and beyond what I stated above is legalism and will not help anyone get within a billion light years of heaven.

So, hold on - self-loathing assholes still go to heaven?

Most everyone who knows me considers me to be a pretty normal guy. That includes a large number of people with different religious views than yours truly.
I suppose I am a bit different than the average sheep, a fact which I am proud of.
Besides, even if I'm nuts, the hell with being sane.

The great irony I am often confronted with here on NT is all the supposed free-thinking designers et. al. who are actually conforming to the popular relativistic status quo: the thinking being that there is no concrete blasphemy possible except that of telling someone they are wrong.
Compared to people that fit the above description, I could be considered quite the odd religious and philosophical duck since I really don't fit in with 95% of my colleagues. So no wonder some of you think I'm nutters.
