I need a new phone! blackberry or iPhone?
- mg330
Every since I used Kona's a few weeks ago (it was the first one I'd actually held or used) I was really impressed.
Not sure I want to switch to AT&T though, so I'd look into the software hack to run it on T-Mobile, who many think have the best service in Chicago.
Could be an expensive Christmas for personal gifts for myself. Planning on a new ipod and maybe an iphone. Oh, and larger pockets for all my pants.

blackberry

the $40/month fee for the pleasure of using the Blackberry magical 'push' server kills it for me.

iphone.
careful with the hack though. at&t is pushing back real hard on apple to cut out the other service providers as it was supposed to be att ONLY selling / carrying the iphone. now that the hack opened it up other carriers can be used and at&t is super pissed.
also with it's release in the uk soon those providers are pissed as well and pushing at apple to shut the phone down.
so i'd have to say apple pretty soon is going to be voiding all warranties on any hacked phone for the life of said phone to try and cut down on it being opened up.
maybe something even worse where it locks your phone altogether. who knows.
i recently installed an app that allows me to take photos and have them pushed directly to my flickr account, and another that gives the phone gps. i might have to wipe the whole thing and start over so it doesn't void the phone now. :(

mg, just curious, why would you get an ipod and an iphone?
- joyride0
iphone... I've been trying real hard not to get one. I'm waiting for gen II, which some of the rumor sites have it coming out sept - jan sometime.
- k0na_an0k0
joyride. i heard the next gen will have the 3g network so will be much faster.
but before this i never had a 3g phone so i don't know what i was missing. edge is way faster than my last phone and we have wireless at work and i have it at home so it's blazing fast about 80% of my day.
i'm so happy with this thing.
and dobs. to answer for mg. the ipod touch is only 16gb of storage and as a musician he may have a ton of music. i think he may be thinking about the classic with the massive hd. the iphone only has 8gb which for me is more than enough of all the music i'm really interested in. my 30gb ipod holds my full collection.

ahh I get it.

I switched over to AT&T so I can get an iPhone later but for now I got a $20 refurb blackberry so I'm happy for now. I keep hearing people who are used to blackberries complain about the iPhone keyboard. hhmm
- joyride0
yeah, I'm hoping for 3g and a replaceable battery.
For me, a smarter phone is the way to go. I mainly need access to send and receive pop/imap email, the music is completely secondary, browsing web surfing would be cool too. Treo and smart phones just are too much IMO.
I wonder what would happen if I plugged an Iphone into my car ipod link... hrmmm, would it work just like my ipod connects?

(Sep 25 07, 12:49)Because my 20GB ipod has gotten way too small for my entire music collection - nu-polka and otherwise.

I am still on the fence. The more I muck about with the iphone the more I want one. But AT&T are a SHIT wireless carrier. Their EDGE network is BALLS and I think I can wait till apple announce a 3G version with more GB's of memory to be honest...
- mg330
Actually mrb - the iphone was really cool - but I don't have much interest in using it as a music player. Storing photos and that sort of thing is great, but I like having as much music as I can with me. They're what, 8GB of storage? Too small for me personally.
- madirish0
it is really balls on the front range, other places, it rules.
and 3G is rad. wish it was more prevalent....

(Sep 25 07, 13:00)two of my friends came from the treo and had a hard time picking up the new keyboard. but after a few days they love it.
it really is quite intuitive. i can type almost as fast as on a real keyboard now. no kidding.

(Sep 25 07, 13:00)if you're talking about a car charge it may.
but it won't work with the fm transmitter / charger that i have in my car.
no biggie.
- mg330
I'll back Kona on that. I heard that it was hard too, and was amazed at how easy it was.
The built in google maps feature is really cool actually as well.
- joyride0
yeah, my buddy says he has a hard time using the keyboard when he tried one. but you'll adapt to using it. He's the only one I've heard that just didn't like it.

Kona it's an ipod interface kit, allows me to use my radio controls to control the ipod (connect through the CD Changer port), charges it, etc. I'm sure someone has tried, I have to search the forums to see if it works or not.

Frankly, I don't need a new phone that much, I have a RAZR right now and like the looks of the new RAZR2, but iphone just has so much more to it that I'd gladly pay the $$ to switch.
My coworker just got one so I'll have to see the reception and quality is in my neighborhood since we live down the block from each other.
