Oh, I definitely agree with you, Blue.
The Christian church does too little to help the needy in the world, and too much to help itself.

let he who is without sin cast the 400th+ stone

It's much easier for the "christians" to scare their followers into belief (and keeping that money flowing!) by finding the "evil" in their backyard - "gays", "evolution scientists" or "elite liberals" than it is by pointing out the real evil happeining to people they can't identify with (by reasons of culture and or skin color) who are really suffering evil - like forced sexual or debt slavery, poverty or famine.
And it's true of Islamisists as well who morally whip up their followers about "the zionist" the "crusader"in their own backyard than the same moral issues mentioned above.
So much for "morality" from "religions".

if there were any more generalizations in this thread, it would implode.
- mrdobolina0
you take up the cause of a generalization, you should be used to it.
- Mimio0
If it implodes maybe we could get some slaves to clean it up? I wonder, are there slaves in heaven?

Blue, your problem is all these sweeping statements you like to make. I don't think any of us on here could disagree with you about the state of the christian church.
However, that does not mean logically or philosophically Christianity does not offer morality or absolute truth.
Seriously - you just can't get past that can you?
Of course, I understand it's difficult to understand how something good could come from Christianity, when so many terrible things happen regularly.
Honestly, I'm ashamed and embarrassed. That's why I don't want to be grouped into sweeping statements.

Mimio - good one. I'm sure the pharoahs are rolling in their graves.

do not bother mimio with the facts, he is content holding on to the caricatures in his mind.

According to Disciplers linked article they'd probably leap at the opportunity to improve their social status...

Flag, gramme, and others:
Would you kill for Christ? Not would you die for him or your belief, but rather, would you kill for him?
At heart, to me that's what this whole "God's Warrior" show was about - those so blinded by their beliefs (regardless - Christian, Islamic, Jew) who would morally condone killing for their god.
If that's not abhorrent and a twisting of morality then I don't know what is..
I doubt wither of you would "kill for christ "..but there are plenty that do and are quite convincing and powerful operating in this world today.
And then there is also killing a man physically and also physically robbing a man of his existence short of death that these religions can excel at as well.

On BBQ spits in Hell perhaps.
Seriously though, the God of Bible doesn't ascribe to an absolute morality. He must be amoral or immoral.
- TheBlueOne0
incog, I don't believe Christinaity holds a lock on Absolute Truth cause it doesn't and Absolute Truth is a platonic fantasy, especially in moral/ethical terms.
All the criticisms I laid at above that you call "sweeping statements" were hardly sweeping but rather fairly spot specific. I accept any human institution as ultimately fallible.
"Absolute Truth" is for babies in need of security blankets.
You know, I've spent time in Asia where christianity just doesn't exist and it's moral ethical codes are equally nonsensical and totally devoid of connection to day to day life. It wa sin the abscence of christianity that put it all into perspective for me. Of course, if your ilk was their you'd be too busy trying to convert someone to recognize the beauty and humanity of a way of life that didn't need your god.
- incog0
Mimio - true dat. amoral.
Blue - I would never kill another person out of Christian belief. Those who do in this day and age are killing for other reasons than they claim.
- flagellum0
whatever helps you sleep at night, Antonelli.

Mimio: God respects freewill. That's what you don't seem grasp.
- Brookoioioi0
Respects free will so much he'll punish you with an eternity of torture for not believing in him?
- incog0
Blue,
So really it comes down to a difference in philosophy. A difference in belief. a difference in faith. I can live with that.
I recognize the beauty and humanity of a way of life without my God more than you know. I've traveled, and it's shallow of you to assume I have not.
Christianity, philosophically, is actually pretty similar to the enlightenment movement in a lot of ways. You just have to look at it for what it really is, not how it is misrepresented and misused through history and culture.
