Hi, if you have formal education and you've been 10y in interactive design, how much would it be fair to ask for yearly salary in Spain?

Over €20K is a lot of money in Spain. Minus taxes.
- Haydesign0
But €20K is about £13k.
Thats a lot of money there???Don't get me wrong, I'd love to earn as much as that.

A friend of mine who is a skilled perl programmer earns €1400 net per month in Barcelona, says it is good money over there. Rent prices are crazy, close to these in Dublin. The difference is, €1400 is minimum wage in Ireland (€666 in Spain, both before taxation).
http://epp.eurostat.ec.europa.eu…In Summer, they skip the siesta, work from 8 to 3.30pm.
At 4PM, Barceloneta beach is just perfect. This boggles my mind all the time.*learns perl

if you've been working ten years you should already know.

spain is a great country but holy fuck they're lazy
- ethered0
Spaniards are not lazy, your workaholics ***

formal education and 10 year experience? You should be the owner of the shop hiring newcomers...

I wonder who is the laziest, the one that gets up early in the morning and works until 3pm or the one that gets up at 9 am, gets to work at 10, browses the int3rweb until 12, goes to lunch comes back at 1:30, visits the int3rweb again and finally gets to work around 3is... then they stay until 10 or 11pm because... there is a LOT to do ;)

Here the agencies are paying 900 for newbies > 1200 for senior designers.
If you´re a experienced guy, you can get 1500... but much more is not easy.
I do 1800 now like CD (post taxes) with a great calendar and never go home later than 17 on winter and 15 on summer.
Plus i do some freelancing job at home for extra cash.
Agency+extra payments (i´ve got 15 payments for year)+freelancing= 31k/year post taxes.
But i´m privileged, trust me, people like me hardly do more than 20k/yearly.
Here is very hard to get a rent for less of 600 and flats are very, very expensive.
I´m talking about basque country, BCN still can be more expensive, but you can get MORE work/rent offers there.

thanks for the help, il need to get some more experience so i can earn more money, time to implement phase 1.

Don't forget about €5-8K low interest secured bank deposit (on top of standard one month rent deposit) required by apartment owners in Madrid and BCN. Be prepared for tenant castings, usually there is a long list of people who are interested in a flat. If you're from Eastern Europe, you're not likely to be on top of it.
Also, if you register for freelance, there is an extortionist flat rate social tax of €250 no mattern if you earn something.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
- rafalski0
€250 per month that is
- wwfc0
do you mean autonomos? €234 per month!
- wwfc0
...and a rolling fine if you miss one month :(
- OBBTKN0
Yes... this is "cuota autonomos" for seguridad social, minimum 250 euros/month.
Better get this cuota for a year, minimum, and extra cash for taxes in a a bank account that you´re not going to touch for anything.
Mantain religiously 3000 euros on this account, and think only on working.
- rafalski0
This is really annoying, because what it does is promote large firms by sweeping small business from large companies' feet.
Do you still have to pay cuota autonomos if you have your regular job+freelance?
Social tax is 5% of your net earnings in Ireland (3% if you earned less than €400/week).
Similar in the UK, where it is only £2/week if you don't earn anything. Is there a way around it? Can you start a Ltd. company in a country with a more liberal economy and invoice your clients from there?

(Aug 22 07, 02:15)I think there are companies that sell those kind of services in the UK - you rent a PO Box, communications and a secretary will handle all your paperwork. in EU you can open a company anywhere just as long you have an address to locate the firm i think.
