INDEED! we talked about this in the beer thread a few weeks back. I've been hobby brewing for the last 10 or so years, mostly in the summer and around the holidays. I usually brew 3-4 batches of my "special holiday beer' to give out as gifts, and people go fucking crazy for it. Most call it their favorite gift all year! It doesnt cost me much and I enjoy doing it too.
BB2, where do you live? I'm in the LA, CA area...perhaps we could do some trades here? THat would be awesome to get a NT beer brewers group to trade around!
What are you favorites to make? what have you had success with? I'm always looking for some interesting sorta non traditional type stuff.

We go to one of those brew houses were they have all the gear and brew. Good to get out of the house and no cleanup! They also have as much free beer as you want on tap while you brew/bottle.
On average we do about 500 litres a year between the three of us.

I got a kit for Christmas that I still haven't tried out. It's enough to make 50 pints.

I always wanted to brew my own beer but I need like room before I can get into this. My plan is to start this up in June of next year.
- I want to make a beer that incorporates hot sauce. In that it's kind of hot, and makes you want to drink more and more.********

Homebrewing in the nutshell:
• You can make top notch beer in your kitchen
• It's fun and easy
• You can take the process as seriously or as lightly (within reason) as you wish and have great success
• Cost-wise, it's about a wash, so don't get into homebrewing as an economical means of acquiring beer.

I am a certified homebrew sampler.
Send all brews to me for the stamp of approval.

Not me but my neighbor growing up did. He brewed a whole bunch of his own beer for years when I was a kid. The guy was a genius. He had pretty much a whole mini brewery wired up in his basement complete with a brass line that ran from the basement, through the rafters and up and out a whole in the wall next to the fridge upstairs where he installed a working tap. It was amazing. Whenever the dads would need a new beer while playing cards they just tapped a glass next to the fridge while the beer was stored and chilled downstairs. It was a great setup.
- Yes. I want this kind of set up when I get my own place. You have given me purpose yet again kOna.********

I've brewed a few batches in the basement. Some turned out better than others. The key is to ensure everything is 100% clean. Also make sure you store them in bottles with a tight seal. And be patient. Which is the hardest part.
The most success I've had though is with home brewed wine.

I brewed a recipe that was very similar to Bass but I can't find it at the moment. Wort smells yummy when it's cooking.

Not in my own home,
but their is a place in South FLorida called brewmaster that lets you go there and cook up a receipe....then you can bottle it there.
I go there once in a while with one one my printers to brew up a wickedly pungeant pale ale called "Air Man" that is seriously better than anything you can buy.
I'm thinking of taking orders.
