Driving up there for the first time with the wife and kid in a couple weeks, after whale watching in the San Juan islands.
Any tips on lodging, great food (hi-brow/low-brow), activities, sights, etc...?
Much appreciated!

vancouver is the coolest. blast radius is hq'd there, and it has the best air and the outdoorsy types. watch out for the aggressive bums in downtown van... lol. always good for a show. creative, environmental, beautiful. i'm considering moving my family there.

Visit Stanley park. It has tennis courts, mini golf, bike/skates rentals, a beach, an outdoor swimming pool, and aquarium and it is close to Denman St and Davie St. where you can find a decent amount of ok/good restaurants like Tanpopo (all you can eat sushi), Vera Burgers, Guu (japanese bbq/izakaya), Stepho's (greek food)
Go shopping on Robson st. There's the usual stores like guess, etc...and Pacific Centre Mall. Plus there's a bunch of good local shops and good restaurants too. For chinese try "Hon's". Big portions at affordable prices. Get a coupon on the free newspaper "Georgia Straight" for a 15% off. For japanese/korean/bbq, you can try Shabusen (Robson st x burrard st.) It's all you can eat sushi and bbq.
If you're in the mood for japanese tapas check "Guu" on thurlow st. and robson, or "Hapa izakaya" on robson and cardero st. Hapa is a personal fav, but i wouldn't recommend it if you have a child.Check Metrotown Mall in Burnaby if you wanna visit BC's biggest shopping centre.
other places you might wanna visit is the Capilano suspension bridge (haven't been there coz it sounds boring, but everybody seems to check it out), Gastown which a old little neighbourhood with only local shops, good food and it's near harbour centre where you can see from the top all of Vancity.
Don't carry change in your pockets as the panhandlers have a very sharp ear and will follow you all day long. But they aren't a threat.
If you see a 60-year-old tall woman with big blonde hair asking you for "an extra 25 cents", tell her to go fuck off and to get a job. That bitch bugs me so much. She has an apartment near the beach and still asks for coins!!

GOD!! she is always there!!!
once or twice is ok but she is always there to ask you for changes. i think the best way to avoid them is to just ignor them and walk the other way.it suks if your at a bus stop tho....

ha!
guaranteed whale watching at wreck!
unlike the real ocean where you'll be lucky to see just a body part of a whale

(Aug 8 07, 20:13)You're just bitter because of where you use to live.
There's some Sea Kayaking to be had in Deep Cove which is pretty rad cruise over to an island have a picnic and enjoy the great out doors.
Oh there's the planetarium and the maritime museum which isn't half bad (there just a walk down the sea wall from Granville Island)
As for the blond bum I have hates for her too. If you're so broke why are you wearing lipstick every time I see (gawdy as it is)

the one I'm talking about has dry curly hair.Honestly I felt bad for the woman a long while ago, but after I saw her coming out of her apartment on fucking Cardero St by English Bay...oh man...
And then there's this black dude on robson st that every single day has a bandaid on a different spot on his face.
And you dude! Don't forget to check out Brandys. Bring the kid too! ;o)

Let me rephrase that.
//Vancouver sux.
If any one hasn't mentioned it yet, a travel down E. Hastings is must. Make sure you go by on Wednesday when it's pogey day. You'll be treated to the sad and sorry state that is the east end of Vancouver.

your kid would prolly be stoked to go up the Grouse Mtn. skyride:
most vancouverites quickly forget how fortunate we are to have that view.

high brow
- yale town: walk around there (yappy central)
- wedgewood hotel lounge: hidden gem for nice desert (not for kids)
- opus hotel: vancouver's only designer boutique hotellow brow
- pan pacific hotel: where all the cruise ships come in, nice view of the park and north shore
- main street: upward after 4th starting be more and more trendy, look for nice lounge such as Public lounge or some vintage shops
- richmond: there are tons of chinese malls. look for Aberdeen center, which is higher end chinese mall, it has BMW accessory store. and has japanese dollar store with in
- drive around UBC, always worth it. you can drive along the water edge from richmond to downtown. well worth it
- lion gates bridge: go through stanley park and take the bridge.
- stanley park: go around 930am and you will see fog under the lion gates bridge,if all fails..
