i've been having the classic symptoms for a while now...hands falling asleep at night, a little numbness in the fingertips, etc...
I made an appointment with a neurologist and he ran some test which basically involves gently shocking you and timing how long it takes the electricity to travel through your nerves.
my readings came out fairly normal, so the doc said to try wearing those oh-so-flattering braces and watch the ergonomics of my work area.
i've been doing both (though wearing the braces is kind of uncomfortable so i don't do it so much). its been about a month and my symptoms have gotten a little better.
i think the biggest difference is how i position my hands when i sleep at night. if the wrist is crooked then my hand winds up falling asleep in the middle of the night.
i'm only 25 and the doc said basically at this point there's not much you can do. I guess the bottom line is to try to make yourself as comfortable as possible and don't worry too much about it until the symptoms progress.

Keep your wrist at a 90 degree angle to your body. Get one of them keyboard rest things.
Every hour or so take a few mintues and move your wrist around, massage ita bit. If it's still like that after a couple weeks, go to doctor to get snipped.

I like to sit on my hand until it goes numb before I rub one out...I call it, "the stranger."

for quite a few months now i've been using my middle finger to scroll/click/use the mouse having my palm rest fully on the mouse.
much better.
for a while there i was getting shooting pains in my wrist from clicking so much with my index finger.
DAMN YOU NT!

Another thing to watch for is how your arm/elbow is resting on your desk. In my case, the edge of the desk hits just below my elbow, so if I'm not careful, it tweaks that nerve & tendon and I get pain & numbness.
So, besides using a wrist rest on your mouse and keyboard, consider putting a rolled up scarf or towel or something else soft under your forearm or elbow.
