it's all about 'save and compact' when saving and resaving a file multiple times...especially if the file is being touched by multiple machines.

I can get Flash to crash on a fairly regular basis. If you can't get a platform to crash you're not trying hard enough - and I'm doing pure actionscript here.
But this is a part of every language I've found. The world is full of lazy jackasses who can't meet a deadline and ship out half-baked goods.
thas the way it is

use as3 and the command line compiler that will stop u having crashes.
- st33d0
Right, I will use AS3 and the command line when using Flash 8 with animations being provided for me that have been made on the time line.
I'm certain the pixel animators will be happy to learn how to program what with it not being in their job description.

I haven't had CS3 (mac) crash on me once since the day it came out. I'm not saying it won't happen but I am saying there is something messed up on your box.

Sorry Im coming to this late in the day and all. Ive had a few problems with flash, some crashing, some slowdown and once, on a slower machine, a corrupt file.
But Boz, you're on a PC, which, by your reckoning in the 'why buy a mac' thread is by far more stable than macs so, dude, wtf? get a mac.

check your fonts
point of note: i was in another designers office the other day and saw flash crash 3 times...he did the same thing all 3 times (involved huge artwork)...took him 3 times to realize not to do that...
you learn what not to do, like leave flash on all night...

(Jul 17 07, 06:22)Case in point - in Flash 8 the BitmapData object:
http://www.gskinner.com/blog/arc…
It doesn't tell you about THAT in the help files. I'm lucky my boss knew about it or my next game would be running extra bloody slow.

ian, why do you have to come in with that crap. Flash crashes on Mac just as much as on PC. Even worse as it was SOOO slow and painfully irritating to work with just before CS3 came out. Even with CS3 it's still crashing horribly, go take a peak and forums. this makes OSX suck ass? I don't think so really, but you make it sound like it does. Second, my chimes about Apple hate is not really against Macs, it's about their attitude towards the consumer and the company's totalitarian approach to everythign. If the world was left up to Apple we would have a similar society as in, let's say, movie THX 1138 or even The Island (for more modern times), where you are given an illusion of perfection and completely bound by what you are being told. So let's not go there.
Flash is generaly VERY poorly coded machine. It works like heaven when you are making simpler Flash builds. But when you create rich graphically and code intense applications and experiences, this is where you start experiencing problems everywhere. Crashes, unexpected behaviors due to player's poor memory handling etc etc.
This is not OS specific (Windows or Mac), it's the application. For example, even with Save & Compact you still have a bunch of stuff that the file doesn't get rid of. For example, you import some videos, music etc etc into the library. You save the file. Let's say it's 50mb. I reopen the file, take out video clips and stuff, Save and Compact and the file still remains with high kb/mb size. That's just one stupid example.
There's a million other things that just make it crash but this is what it is.

Complete ignorance!
The reason it's a monopoly is because nothing comes even remotely close to it. Why don't you use golive instead and stop blaming your problems on Flash. Buy a better computer and problem solved.
I've been using Flash for years and I've been blown away with every release. As far as video, handling xml, real time applications, nothing outperforms it.
Not only is ur website most unimpressive but your picture indicates ur a poser.

i dont know flash.
