i just want to know what you see within the icon.
it's for an org that helps indian communities develop (gives loans for homes, businesses, buildings).
"The CDFI will be structured to provide loans to tribes at favorable loan rates in the areas of housing, infrastructure, predevelopment loans, and in the future, mortgage loans."

I'm seeing the feather, but I think thats only because you mentioned a stereotype and then I made that connection.
Next time ask before you give us the clues ;)

a pencil.
a hairy pencil in fact.

damn. i wasn't going for any of those.
it's supposed to be 3 houses stacked on top of each other (representing development) and they're in the shape of a feather.
i was hoping it would be more obvious.

ok, so letters2 caught it.
i might ditch those colors if so many of you are seeing a pencil.. i think that has a lot to do w/ that.

keep at it...you'll get the feather going soon enough.
Quimosabe, jump on it!

I did get it, but like I said, you lead me to it – I might not get it if I was a stranger to it.
Is the client Native American? Have you asked anyone of native american ethnicity how they feel abouit it? Just wondering if the whole feather thing – since it was beaten like a dead horse as a stereotype – is found to be derogatory.

Is everyone joking? I saw the feather and houses right away.
- ********0
i kind of saw the houses, given that those japanese temples look kind of like one building stacked on another. never saw the feather though.

the marketing company who we work with is in the same office, and their CEO is Native, so I can ask her later today (this is for one of her clients - she uses us as her creative branch).
no, the feather thing isn't considered derogatory. i know it's been beaten to death, but we have so many Native clients, and there are only so many Native Elements.
but since the client is Native, it will definitely be easier for them to recognize a feather in there. the target audience will also likely be Native, so they will recognize it easier too.

first thing i saw were the 3 houses and then i thought they made arrows
- ********0
arrows are good. positive vibe, goes with growth & development.

if you squint you can see the feather better.
maybe i should add another house to make it look more like a feather. although i do like things in threes better. hmph
