For my part, I think the logo is successful. I don't like the aesthetic of it, but thats entirely subjective. Sure, 2012 isn't that legible but nor does it have to be. Its memorable and unique – something we need more of in the field of logo/branding marks these days. Some of the video examples out there show good potential in developing the visual system.

You're right. There is nothing new under london's cloudy skies.But the idea will be quite extraordinary on the scale of the Olympics and don't forget that it's bound to evolve.
I just hope they don't scrap it completely because it proved a bit too much for many.

there would be no reason whatsoever to scrap the very worthy aims of the branding concept, but I reckon it might well get shafted due to being realised in such a shitty marque and received with such universal derision.
Having a concept is not enough on its own, hopefully this might make a few people realise that.
