Olympic Logo… Hmmmm?

ok, I'm getting the idea of how things have been going for 100 posts or so...
...
I have to agree that the aesthetic of this is both trendy (though not sure if that trend is contemporary for today) and likely to have some survival issues in the long term, but 5 years out is guessing for all of us these days – things change quick. I can only hope gradients die out within the next 5 years.
As for the logo surviving – well, with enough money (which they will have) anything can last. And in the case of this logo, I think there is room to move laterally with it and find new visual ideas that may be more appealing in certain contexts. For example, if we extract the visual language, we have some jagged, abstracted letterforms and some bold colors – if you were flexible enough you could go lots of places with this.

"Claire Stocks - Interactive editor, Olympic sports"
i'd say she's got a vested interest. and i'm wondering what your link is to this whole muddle, as you seem to have a vested interest as well.
it's not that the idea is shocking and edgy and people are deriding it out of fear of change.
it's that it's derivative, nostalgic, trendwhoreing and tacky.
you're not some sort of visionary, ffs. it's just poor execution.

I kind of like it but it's pretty garish and user hostile for an Olympic games mark.

It would be interesting to hear from the competitors on this. I realize that each country has a vested interest in the games – but it really comes down to an event about competitors (I know this is highly simplified, but it is a sporting event).

yeah, I kind of have a soft spot for graphics like that. It's so bad it's funny and therefore good.

Vested interest, huh?
Yes, if they get to keep the logo, I get to exclussively supply the Champagne for the games.
Please, please guys, back me up!
