You could have abducted the Queen for 5 years and you wouldn't even need a logo - that would be innovative. not using clichés to get rid of clichés.

Personally I don't like it, but can see it's merits in the sense that they're encouraging people to play with it, make it their own and create something they can feel a part of...
like it or not, it will be a successful campaign in many respects, outside of design and political circles..
That said, it's the fecking olympics, people aren't gonna be swayed or affected one way or the other due to it's branding.. Is a sport fan suddenly not going to attend because of the identity, or vice-versa?
It does seem very 'london' though, at least at the moment. Very different for the sake of being different, very '80's' and electro influenced...
and I guess I can employ my new basis for judgement these days - 'I've seen worse'

I haven't read his posts but I doubt that's solely his point...

(Jun 5 07, 05:27)its not solely his point, but you'd be surprised
and snuggs, you know exactly how far from precious about 'pretty' design I am.

it's just so 'right-now' london. which is to say: 1986 as seen through 1991 looking back from 2007.
i find it difficult to imagine that it's most salient characteristic, trendiness, is going to stand it in good stead until 2012.
they'll change it. mark my words. 400k or no.

right-o, I read some of his posts and can see a bit of what he's saying, but I wouldn't waste my time arguing...
the one detrimental impact it may have is deterring people from buying branded apparel, but again, I reckon people don't care what the stuff looks like, it's purely nostalgia for those that were 'there'...
- neue75_bold0
I agree para, I think there was a hint at that notion - that it would be evolutionary as time goes on...
at least it would've been good to include that in the press release so they could always fall back on that when they start slowly refining/changing it... ;)

"dynamic modern and flexible"
ubiquity will triumph in any case

(Jun 5 07, 05:51)I agree. I love the Olympics despite what the logo is.
I'm faulted that way.

Well it certainly pushes the evolutionary design boundaries of "suck" just that farther out, doesn't it.

we can only hope for sheer disaster/war hitting our lands soon so that hopefully by 2012 this logo will be symbol for the shattered civilization we once knew.
it'd be a perfect form for that.
except for the color.but some serious nuclear intervention or other poisonous warfare could make up for that though.
