Ok, an honest question from me.......
would gun control have made a difference considering the two pistols he used had their serial #'s scratched off, meaning he acquired them from somewhat less than legal transactions?
just asking.........
Kirshar
(Apr 17 07, 11:14)well of course!
the person that he bought them from was able to find them right? if not him the person above and so on till you find the first guy.The only way gun control wouldn't help is if the gunman had fabricated his own weapons and bullets (gun control also means harder access to ammo at your local walmart / target)

at the same time, would you really think a lot about a troubled student that you kind of know from one of your classes?
I would maybe consider him/her and be wary of that person, but I wouldn't report them until something serious occurred.
I suppose the people who referred him to get help for depression could've done something, but no one would've expected him to go on a shooting spree (I'm guessing, anyway).

"So, they knew this guy was 'troubled' based on his creative writing and he had a record. Why the fuk is he still attending school???"
OSFA
(Apr 17 07, 11:28)Does the record part have any bearing on this? I have a record, does that mean I should not be allowed to attend school?
- Jaline0
yeah, I don't get that either...
I could've had a record but my parents knew my teachers well..
- Meeklo0
I dont think you can assume any humane will go on a shooting spreee, unless of course, jah forbides, you see him in front of you when he is already firing, and even then, that acction is so unexpected that you probably don't even know what is going on..
dont you think?
- ********0
I don't think either of us were taking about a school record jaline.
- Meeklo0
this is pretty horrible, I watch the video someone mentioned earlier with the gunshots and is very scary.
- Kirshar0
I don't know, all those indecent exposure charges on my record kept me out of the Ivy league college of my dreams.........
Flashing the 'ol unit around too much catches up to you down the road.
- Jaline0
I wasn't talking just about school record either...

But, I doubt it would be easy for me to get hold of a weapon (and LOTS of amunition) in the UK.
Which makes it harder for me to go on a shooting spree.
skt
(Apr 17 07, 11:17)you only see it that way because you have no drive/ determination/ desire to find such things.
Finding what you want is easy if you have money or another bartering device.
- ********0
thats a lot of pish v5. you tried buying a gun in London, and they would just take your money from you and you would be lucky to get away without a kicking to boot.
might be easy enough here, but thats because they aren't such a rare commodity.
you aint a 15 year old kid growing up in Peckham, you can't just walk in there with cash and come away with a weapon.
- version30
it's not an argument, but i doubt it's as difficult as you'd like to make it, however without experience, i won't get into it.
war corpratism is global, there's a gun for sale in every country
- ********0
i'm not saying guns aren't for sale in the uk. but because of the nature of the market in the uk (gangs and organised crime) i doubt the likes of me or you, or for that matter an un-hinged 20 year old maths student, could get their hands on one. not easily. that is all.
- Jaline0
he was an English student, I believe. He did Math too?
- Kirshar0
actually, a friend of mine is supposed to teach me how to use a handgun pretty soon, and we have to go buy ammo.
I guess I'll get to see how tight the system is on buying handgun ammo around here.
Disclaimer: Although I am a quiet lurker in the shadows, I promise not to use these soon-to-be-learned skills to cause harm...........

i think this has a lot to do with america's stance on refusing to detain the mentally ill on the grounds that it violates their rights.
- version30
When Ronald Reagan was governor of California he systematically began closing down mental hospitals, later as president he would cut aid for federally-funded community mental health programs. It is not a coincidence that the homeless populations in the state of California grew in the seventies and eighties. The people were put out on the street when mental hospitals started to close all over the state.
Seeing an increase in crime, and brutal murders by Herb Mullin, a mental hospital patient, the state legislature passed a law that would stop Reagan from closing even more state-funded mental health hospitals. But Reagan would not be outdone. In 1980, congress proposed new legislation (PL 96-398) called the community mental health systems act (crafted by Ted Kennedy), but the program was killed by newly-elected President Ronald Reagan. This action ended the federal community mental health centers (see timeline on this link) program and its funding.
In closing, the next time you pass by a homeless person in downtown San Francisco screaming to themselves at the top of their lungs, remember Reagan. And if your kids need to go out and get jobs at age 9 to pay down the national debt, be sure to tell them that they can thank Ronald Reagan, and now President Bush, for their misfortune.

it's just one asshole.
hundereds of amreicans meet their maker in that great american death machine, the automobile, every week.
emotion aside, this is just another insignifiact spree killing...
if there's any blame outside the perp, it probably should be pointed straight at us.
we eat this media frenzy up...
that thought, of being the illest motherfucker in america, must dirve these sociopaths to some degree...
certainly more than guns and video games.
