I remember suggesting to my friends to rent the movie because I enjoyed Wild at Heart and Blue Velvet and about quarter in they both had that OJ Simpson look in their eyes

someone please explain to me why it is that lost highway is not shite.
I watched it twice and if I ever meet David Lynch intend to feed him refrigerated but out of date jobby sandwiches till his head turns puce.
That cunt is due me 4 hours of my life back.Seriously please say WHY it is such a great film.

First off, you have to accept that Lynch is not interested in sticking with linear narratives. His films are more and more about textures and visual metaphor.
*this is because the man was a painter before a filmmaker*
Second, the film is about hallucination, and that which we impose on ourselves in times of extreme trauma and anxiety. Fred Madison kills his wife. He slips into another relaity in which he is Pete Dayton, as an attempt to escape the first reality.
Or...is it the other way around?
In any case, that has always been my feeling.Films don't always have to tell a story. They can be something else. Ask yourself...do Jackson Pollock or Mark Rothko paintings "look like something?"

what's not to like? it has cool visuals and sounds. it has rollins. driving advice (no tailgating) and bill pullman doesn't play president nor any other twat. i don't like Patricia Arquette's kind of tits, they look sorta soft in a way, but hey - they don't look that bad on screen and they're there!

first time i watched it i didn't get it at all. then i read an article on it that explained what really happened. and then i watched it again and appreciated it more.
when mulholland drive came out, i was ready because i knew he'd pull the same all-this-freaky-shit-is-going-on... shit again. that time i got it in the first go.

non linear narratives are not a problem for me in the slightest, but I have yet to meet one person who can explain lost highway. not one. I also agree that films need not tell a story, but lost highway is one of these films that gives rise to IMO pretentious discussion on what it meant when it is so fucking evident that it meant fuck all - and for that reason alone Mr Lynch is a cunt that will pay me 4 hours one way or another should our paths ever cross.
my missus disagrees with me on this too btw, it is a pet hate of mine, don't think it is clever just wank for the sake of wanking.
