That made me laugh. :)

Yes, Mulholland totally has its own rational (!) explanation to it. You just have to be looking through Lynch's lens.
Laura Dern said something great in the DVD extras for Wild at Heart. Something along the lines of: You have to realize that for David it's not about the end product. This is about process. If you were to ask him what something means, he couldn't tell you anyway, because he's not sure yet. He just has to go through this. But it's thrilling enough to want to be aprt of it.
Something like that...

emecks, it is about immersion, not getting it.
i fucking hate people who want to "get" everything. they belong in labs, not in the artistic atmosphere.
- Jaline0
yup, harlequino.
That's a reason why he never has DVD commentaries or anything.

(Apr 13 07, 15:50)Unfortunately, after seeing it twice in a cinema, I went to the right forums and read it. The explanation is so simple and down-to-earth, it makes you look for a similar one in Lost Highway. Well.. dream on..
- Jaline0
I also did the same thing, and still think there are other ways you could go with it.

Zaktly, Jaline. He has always felt that it would destroy the magic. Which I really respect and like.
It's funny though. Since he founded his transendental meditation school, he's been talking more about his thought process. He seems to be finding parameters within which he is comfortable talking about the creative process. Read this:

You'll see what I mean.

(Apr 13 07, 15:56)Hmmm. I haven't read these. And I don't want to, to be honest. I feel ok with my own reaction. Don't want to spill some other vibes on it. :/
I admit to a heightened curiousity tho...

JESUS CHRIST PEOPLE STOP RATIONALIZING SHIT LIKE OLD GRANNIES AT TEA TIME.
it is friday night ffs

couldn't agree more Crouwel, fucks me right off that people pretend there is something to get when there isn't.
What I don't like about lost highway is the way that it sets itself up to be a film that does make sense, but doesn't. That and all the endless discussions about how it does make sense, the cult around it is just as bad as the film itself for me.
My favourite film of all time is Signer's Koffer, that makes no sense whatsoever but at least immerses me.

JerseyRaindog, worse than Love Actually? Worse than Garden State? Worse than Top Gun?
Rand
(Apr 13 07, 15:39)you know I can't say. I haven't seen any of those movies.
Worse than The Pacifier maybe?

right on.
movies aren't fucking crossword puzzles for fucks sake.
it is cinema, not jeopardy.
films that force you to "get" something are lame, pretentious and a waste of time.
- rafalski0
This time it is just a love and crime story harlequino, that's all. And a damn good one. The explanation lies in the first shot after the dancing people at the beginning..
I know I haven't spoiled it yet. People look and look again and don't get it..
