The Dark Side of Vegetarianism
http://news.yahoo.com/s/hsn/2009…
WEDNESDAY, April 1 (HealthDay News) -- Despite its proven health benefits, a vegetarian diet might in fact be masking an underlying eating disorder, new research suggests.

vegetarian
though not for health or animal reasons, i just tend to overvisualize things, and the idea of veins and cartilage and biological waste in my mouth is not appealing to me at all
- try tell that to the lady between the sheets..janne76

People confuse being vegetarian with being healthy.
I can understand you don't like meat, (I didn't till I was 25 or so) but being healthy is about a lot more than not eating meat. And if you preach it to people, you will only end up looking like a douche, no offense to anyone here though. Veganism is a lot like religion, is great if you keep it to yourself.
peace and love!

I was vegan for 4 months but now I'm a lacto-ovo vegetarian. Read The China Study and be careful and cognizant of what you eat.
- +1 i was vegan for nearly 10yrs, then lacto-ovo, read that book, am now vegan againcrnatrava

Man, as the years roll on and I keep rereading posts that I've made from a couple of years ago, I realise how young and smart and dynamic I was back then. Now I'm just fat and cynical and I don't want to go out anywhere, as the world is full of stupid people, and there's no point.
- i hate everything and everyone as well..janne76
- Yeh. Lets join forces... Oh no, you're on of them too, arent you ?mikotondria3
- fuck you, pal!janne76

You, is a dinlo, sir.mikotondria3

Meat is good for you, our bodies absorb nutrients from animal products easier than vegetable products because we ARE animals ourselves.
- mikotondria30
Not true, protein from meat takes an enormous effort to digest into the same compounds that you would directly obtain from eating plant based foods.
You lose. Your post was a total fail.
You noob.
Etc.- Apologies for the 2nd half of that post, entirely unjustified.
Good fun, but not really fair.mikotondria3 - whatever
sadpanda - "whatever" is not a complete sentence, as I tell my 7 yr old when she responds like that..mikotondria3
- Apologies for the 2nd half of that post, entirely unjustified.

No, YOU are wrong. I wasn't talking about it being difficult to digest you idiot. Try reading before you type. I was saying that the body ABSORBS nutrients better if it comes from meat. There are more nutrients that are natural in meat that cannot ever come from veggies.
- *honestly I was only joking about teh fail/noob businessmikotondria3

Such as ?
- "...... ?"mikotondria3
- Name 3 enzymes and what they act upon, and what they produce....mikotondria3

yeah... such as?
that's wrong btw.And humans are not armed with the necessary tools to be carnivores unlike other animals. The human body struggles digesting meat. It's naturally unnatural now.

Do you actually want specific types of amino acids that come in meat form? what i'm telling you about absorption is something I learned in school. But its not like i'm saying that you should only eat meat.
What I am saying is that a little bit of meat is super good for you. meat is filled with amino acids that you just can't get through veggies or supplements in the same way. And also, veggies accompanied with meat compliments each other's amino acid deficits.- Sure, amino acids would be a good start. Honestly Im interested, Im not just being a prick....mikotondria3
- I do come across like that, but it's just because working at home has desocialised me, and I feel desperate & alonemikotondria3
- sadpanda0
apparently none of you have ever taken a nutrition class. good luck.
- mikotondria30
No, seriously mate - I am interested in exactly what compounds meat can provide that veg etc can't..
- sadpanda0
I don't have those answers. I'm not an encyclopedia.

i won't get too into the details, but i was at a birthday party for a 2 year old over the weekend and the parents gave the 2 year old a medium sized slice of cake with sprinkles, and gave a small piece, halved, to their 4 year old only AFTER removing all the red colored sprinkles from the cake. he of course went bat shit crazy after a few bites and they went on this tangent about red dye and how he can't have it. and how he can't have sugar of any kind because he goes crazy. uh, he's a kid, of course he does. so they got all pissed when he saw one remaining red sprinkle on his cake and went for it only to have his mother dive in and grab it from him, which made me ask the question "just how much red dye do they put in a 1cm wide sprinkle?
they're vegetarians (within the past 5 years) and they're all unhealthy skinny now and always complain of no energy. they're kids in my opinion are developing light years behind the other 4 year olds and 2 year olds at the party and are both overweight from all the breads, pastas and starches.
i'm all for vegetarians and have no problems with them but these two made me want to smack the shit out of them with a side of beef.

Was a vegetarian for 4 years. The feeling is incredible. awake, full of energy, alive, healthy, no colds, no flu, easy to sleep, better hair and better skin.
All that crap about "you can't get stuff you need from veggies" is crap.
Every person will have his own opinion. Even nutritionists contradict themselves. It all depends on who you ask. Some will say you can get everything from non-animal sources. I believe it is not necessary to eat meat to get all the nutrients.
- This from real experience. Was a vegan actually and it was great.VectorMasked
- very good comments and I can personally attest.BLKWRLD
- i'm sure you were smart about it and did your research. they seemed like the type that jumped on the bandwagon...kona
- ... and started reading all the wrong vegetarian sites/books. they were clueless.kona
