(Apr 11 07, 16:19)Um exactly. How is that "counter culture"?
- lemmys_wart0

Abstract expressionism can be easily tied to cubism and (brace yourself) expressionism. While unique to America, it's paint, and is easily tied to other European movements.
Blues and jazz are a wholly unique amalgam of African rhythms and "field songs" from slave-era US. While the influence of Western song forms are undeniable, there is absolutely nothing comparable to have been developed outside of the United States. This is why any music scholar or art/media historian agrees that jazz, in particualr, is the only truly unique art form.
Not a pissing contest, but pointing it out since I studied the goddamn art form for about ten years.

Be a islamic jihadist in a major american city. Be an enviromentalist marxist. That'd be counter-culture,
Singing songs about booty and sneakers and giving shout outs to Cadillac and alchohol disttillers ain't counter culture.
They got to you and you bought the Rebel Kit, deal with it.
- lemmys_wart0
dude, i got cnn on now... there is a fucking activist media LYNCH MOB after imus.

- mrdobolina0

"In sociology, counterculture is a term used to describe a cultural group whose values and norms are at odds with those of the social mainstream"
I don't know about you but the lyrics used in rap music and the culture spawned by those lyrics are a little different from mainstream culture...
ie
"I made a G today" But you made it in a sleazy way
sellin' crack to the kid. " I gotta get paid,"
Well hey, well that's the way it isthis is not a representation of mainstream values
- lemmys_wart0

censorship will be the result.
for whites anyway...
rember jesse jackson calling nyc hymie town?

cause he's black and can say and do racist bullshit.
- lemmys_wart0

Stan from South Park to Token:
"I get it now!!!! I DON'T GET IT!!!"
... and that is why old white people shouldn't try and be 'hip' to the lingo and think they too would be conceived as 'funny' for using it.
Will Ferrell on the other hand can do it all day long as far as I'm concerned:

"not by some dubious ruffian w/out the chops...but by a professional trained voice man'

if jazz and blues are based off of rythyms which were bred in Africa than that means it's roots lay in africa not in America...and therefor are not purely american
additonally the field hollar was also partially derrived from african story telling

(Apr 11 07, 16:40)Yes, yes, dude. What are missing is the fact that this country is the only place the combination could have happened. The influences, social climate, and other factors are SO unique, as to have fostered it.
- TheBlueOne0
jazz, blue, hiphop: The ingredients are african, they were cooked in a pot called AMerica.
