dude, did I say black people were powerless?
ummm no.
I said black on white racism is powerless. Once you actually read what I wrote, your entire post makes no sense.
Also, I went to public schools all of my life in the city, been called honky, cracker, whiteboy, peckerwood, you name it. Did it stop me from getting a job? no.
What race is the majority of people in power in this country?

"rap music is not to blame for Imus's comment, but it plays a large part in the way that black peoople are viewed in our society..."

how can an entire ethnic group be defined by one style of music?
and why hip-hop? why not choose jazz, soul, r&b, or the blues as the defining style?
that take on this topic is maddeningly frustrating to me.

"So when racism comes from blacks it comes with absolutely no power behind it" I think this pretty much means that black people are powerless
I never said it kept me from getting a job either...I simply said it had an effect on me, it changes your view of society...
and when you are a white kid in a mostly black school, I am pretty sure it makes you the minority in that situation...and if I am using your arguement that person would be the powerless one
think before you type next time

(Apr 11 07, 15:55)Motherfucking green.
Follow the money. Who does the culture war benefit. Think about it.
(Are my Anarcho-Marxist roots showing?)

and to even bring up rap music is fucking ridiculous. were the rutgers basketball team rappers? no, so why didnt you bring up rodeo clowns? they have about as much to do with this as rappers do. Oh rappers are black too.
What I am seeing is by bringing up rappers it is sort of backhanded racism in its own right. Like what the fuck do these basketball players have to do with rappers other than the fact that they may be of the same race? see what Im getting at?
- blaw0
thank you!
- DUKIE08220
and why hip-hop? why not choose jazz, soul, r&b, or the blues as the defining style?
because jazz soul and r&b does not does not generate the kind of counter culture that hip hop does...

race war!

MC I-MAN!
- DUKIE08220
bringing rap into this conversation is not ridiculous. the genre and counter culture produced by rap makes the general population think that these types of racist terms are acceptable to use...
- mrdobolina0
so bottom line is black people are to blame for it then, right?
- TheBlueOne0
because jazz soul and r&b does not does not generate the kind of counter culture that hip hop does...

(Apr 11 07, 16:04)WTF? Read a book. Talk to Wynton Marsalis.
Hip Hop is all about the $$$ these days. It IS the culture. It's so beyond co-opted for the Man. What counter-culture? Sneakers and rap videos?
- moldero0
HA! dumbass got fired!
- DUKIE08220
It is all about the money???
that is irrelevant and it doesn't validate calling women bitches and hos, pimping, or killing copslisten to rap, watch a music video and while your at it look up the defention of counter culture

(Apr 11 07, 16:04)Good god, that is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. So Black American music started in the early eighties huh? Time to ejumacate yerself. What came before hip hop is rich with some of the most stigmatized and protest related music ever written. Jazz is the single American contribution to art. Rap is amere commentary on all of these things. Counter culture my ass.
- lemmys_wart0
in reality it's shaprton that pimped the rutgers squad.
his racist ass should be getting canned...
would they have even heard imus's rant without his mass media lynch mob?
this digg thread really says it all...
- mrdobolina0
bringing up rappers when talking about these basketball players is fucking racist. the only common trait they have is their race, that is racism at its purest form.
- TheBlueOne0
Look up the defention of counter culture
DUKIE0822
(Apr 11 07, 16:12)Hahaha. Hip Hop / Rap IS popular culture. It hasn't been counter anything in over a decade. The Source is about as counter-culture as Rolling Stone. Deal.
- DUKIE08220
harlequino...
I was not demeaning the impact or importance of jazz...a great form of music and art
I was simply making a comment on the hip hop culture which has a huge impact on our society todayand by the way have you heard of abstract expressionism I am pretty sure that was an american artform....time to EDUCATE yourself
