I don't see the need to use nazi style.

Great thread guys.
As a youngster I lived in Prague and was often for my sins dragged around culturally significant sites - like the village of Liepzig (sic) and I vividly recall being taken to a concentration camp once (my parents knew how to show a young kid a good time). Anyway the point is even now I recall that yes Fraktur or something similar was very prevalent. But I also recall that futura seemed to be the type of choice for many of the exhibitions and museum pieces and it fitted perfectly. So are you trying to evoke the period, copy it or just find something to represent it?
Anyway, like I say great thread. Haven't seen something useful like this on NT for a few days.
*woke up too early this morning and have put my back out hence my bad mood.

My uncle (born in 1920) learned how to write in Sütterlin, my dad (born in 1939) learned 'normalschrift'. My uncle wrote me a few letters to me before his death, i had to guess mostly what he was trying to say; i could only make out about every third word or so.
Thanks for all the info on this though, i never knew the particulars. My dad only said "hitler changed the way we wrote".

JerseyRaindog, thank you for sharing that powerful story. My intetion was to really try and invoke the period.
I'm still working on the book jacket. The image editorial chose is a scan from a 60's board game box...which makes things even more difficult.

Thanks for sharing GreedoLives. Stories like yours really inspire me to keep pushing this project.

Hey 72-dpi, I scanned that article someone mentioned from Eye magazine about Nazi graphics a while back for a member here called Vespa. If you email her she may still have the scans if that helps. I have since deleted them from my machine.

Check out this site:
http://www.moorstation.org/typoa…The entire collection of Dieter Steffman fonts. Very 'german' examples.
There is a ton of fonts in there, but if you weed through them there are some great ones i think would be perfect. and they are all free.
Alot of unique blackletter fonts.
