My uncle (born in 1920) learned how to write in Sütterlin, my dad (born in 1939) learned 'normalschrift'. My uncle wrote me a few letters to me before his death, i had to guess mostly what he was trying to say; i could only make out about every third word or so.
Thanks for all the info on this though, i never knew the particulars. My dad only said "hitler changed the way we wrote".
