I think people are just getting lazy to a point. Want some ink, and say f-it I am getting a koi fish and callin it a day. I repsect the style to death, but it is getting a little saturated.
Come up with a unique concept and get a killer artist and get stickin.

Emperormack. We already went over this.
Japanese art is beautiful. I'll never argue with that. Timeless, yes. But most people get this kind of stuff tattooed without having a shred of meaning to them. It IS very, very trendy.. and people just throw it on their bodies without any kind of thought. Same goes for the vintage style.
(Are you still going to argue with my feelings on the matter, now that I've clarified?)

and to be fair.. the trendy art probably ISNT the same as the traditional japanese art.. it just gets generalised that way.. redrawn flash asian art gets was dead 90s, but a little kanji symbol is nothing like the full body suits of traditional asian art.
flash art is gay regardless of its origin (unless ur making a weird statement and having a body suit made ony of flash art)
and the only reason why its trendy its because its ready made easy to use and looks good on a celebrity.

I suppose I was really talking about those particular styles of tattooing when they're done properly which, indeed, is often not the case. I don't think we've become saturated with bad koi fish etc.. or tattoo styles. We've become inundated with BAD tattoo artists. In that same vein, there is nothing wrong or "gay" about getting a tattoo from a wall of flash, if it's a respectable shop with a true artisan lineage and history. I.e. I'll gladly take any damn tattoo off the wall from a place that Don "Ed" Hardy owns..see what I mean?...

I was in the studio last week and there were about 4 bands in there. All of the dudes had traditional japanese style work done. I couldnt tell one from the other. It is totally running rampant.
Shit , get work done buy guy atckison, terry ribera or watson atkinson. Original.

I guess like everything it's just different schools of thought. Personally, the last thing I'm doing is getting tattooed by a guy who's motivation is being original and my body is his "canvas"...Barf....I want to get the best tattoo by the best tattoo artists, period. Tradition is everything in tattooing. Go look up Horiyoshi III, Cartoon, Don "Ed" Hardy, Bob Roberts and Burt Grimm.

I LOL'd at "Barf"... that was cute.

"Tradition is everything in tattooing" wtf?
because sailors got a certain style, and traditional japanese has been done before, then you have to go and get that. That's retarded.
It's about personal preference, if you like that shit then get it. Don't get it becasue some 50 year old tattoo artist is telling you it's the only way.
That's like the 50 year old art directors that preach cuttin ruby lith and hand type setting is the only true design method. get over it.

I guess everybody just has their own ideas about what tattooing is all about.
Can't argue with that. :)

I do my own tattoos. I did one on my hip and one on my right bicep.
Both Urdu script.
One my name, the other a line from a poem.
Gonna aim to do something more convaluted next... probably a floral theme still representing Persio-Indian culture across my abdamon.

Nice, Brian :)

thanks, lady.
i'm a bit weirded out, though. i spent mother's day with my parents and in-laws and no "good grief, another tattoo" speaches.
turns out i apparently have so many tattoos that even the people closest to me no longer notice when i've been freshly tattooed.
- Jaline0
Ha! I could see how that would happen, Brian. Unless it was red (from being fresh) or something.
My parents would totally freak out if I dated someone with tattoos. But I actually like them, so who cares.

Although...I guess they're alright.

Was that your aborted baby’s name?
Okay, I am obviously going to bring this up all the time so why even bother typing that I am sorry.

No, it's the name of my niece that passed away when she was only 2 years old.
