After installing itunes 7.1.1 its buggered my ipod photo. Did have the sad face but now it wont appear. I went to apple store and they said YEP its buggered sorry. As its surpassed its warranty I cant get a replacement and they dont fix them either. So thanks to them I have a useless lump off metal now. Ive backed up my tunes so thats ok. Any ideas on what I should do with this ipod?

I have an Mac mini and the bloody thing will only Burn DVD at 2x. And there are a shit load of people out there with this problem.
Apple does fuck all about the situation?

when I buy something I assume it will work forever thank you very much, my walkman still works and so does my 250 megs mp3 player from ages ago, apple have really gotten away with the ipod for too long in my opinion.

Buy you next Ipod at Best Buy & if possible and get their warranty - it's cheaper, lasts longer, and if anything goes wrong they just replace it. I bought a nano there, didn't like it, went in and said the batteries didn't hold a charge, and traded it for an ipod video. Good luck doing that with apple.

My iPod died 3 years ago.
No need for a new one.
Listen to life, it can be fun.

It took me a couple tries just to download the new iTunes update. It kept freezing up my computer right before the installation. Then yesterday my iPod wouldn't turn off. WTF.

everyone expects apple to have better quality equipment than other since ..
1. its more pricey
2. its pretty so it must last longer
3. apple's product has been always good in the past
4. you feel cool so it must be a high tech long lasting
5. if you complain you are the only one in the world because every apple fan boy seems to just cry out foulFunny enough you wouldnt buy a warranty on other brands but you expect buy Apple Care; why is that?

ive had the same ipod for 3 years, and I listen to it all day, 5 days a week, and it works fine.
Its probably not apples fault that you dropped your ipod into the lake, or your mac mini fell out of the sun-roof of your Ford Focus™
nd they have never let me down.

(Mar 23 07, 05:23)you must admit the level of service and product quality has gone down
have you purchased other appl e product with that last 3 years?

i actually heard from a guy who used to work for an apple licensed retailer that they don't build ipods to last more than 1-2 years. no electronics are built to last anymore.

go back to the apple store and beat the crap out of that useless sales assistant with your broken ipod... leave... then throw your ipod back through the shop window... of course dusting off your prints first
;)

(Mar 23 07, 05:37)I heard this too. I'll be happy if my laptop and iPod last 3 years, since they usually don't last more than 2. I just use a credit card when purchasing the items so that I get an extra year of warranty.

I have a 2002 iBook that recently (and surprisingly) suffered from the infamous "logic board design flaw malfunction" - seems the GPU becomes dislocated from the board at the solder points....
anyway - there was a recall but I missed it and so now I'm stuck with this (other wise perfect) laptop that works very rarely.
but I've found some step by step instructions on how to possibly fix it myself.
http://geektechnique.org/project…but as you can imagine it's a precarious operation... I'm going to try it anyway - as soon as I have a good chunk of time...
point is - yes - Apple is slipping but if your resourceful things can be fixed.
the hardest part is getting the thing open! I'm sure it's the same for ipods
i think here in toronto there is a shop that specializes in repairing ipods - out of warranty.

Yeah my ipod won't hold a charge anymore, probably nearing 3 years old (4g) but lightly used in that time period. It is a paper-weight now.
I just ordered a 23" cinema display; this thread reminded me that I should definitely invest in AppleCare.

If your computer still recognises it as an external disc, you might be able to install rockbox or another operating system on it? http://rockbox.org

They support Ipod Color Photo. I put it on my 3 year old monochrome IRiver and it's awesome. Way more options are available than I had. I can record radio shows on it and play some videogames.
