    i actually heard from a guy who used to work for an apple licensed retailer that they don't build ipods to last more than 1-2 years. no electronics are built to last anymore.

    I heard this too. I'll be happy if my laptop and iPod last 3 years, since they usually don't last more than 2. I just use a credit card when purchasing the items so that I get an extra year of warranty.
