Client Managment

I was curious how everyone manages/keeps track of client tasks/requests/updates etc.
We want a system where clients logged in and made requests, chose timeframe (ie. if they need RUSH and be charged extra), could add attachments and that was all dropped in a DB. Then we could view it all, assign/pick tasks and then mark off what we have done. It would be nice if the system could focus in on tasks overdue and if it intergrated with or contained a billing system, that would be tops.
Before we go designing a custom system, I was wondering if anyone knew if something similar existed already? I know their are lots of client managment systems, but looking for one that works best for our industry.

clients folder, sorted by name of company or last name of individual
i do it when they ask me to or remind me, or call and bitch it's not done

There's tons of CRMs out there that do all that. Depends maybe more on your company's needs/investment.

been using this for a couple weeks at work. personally i think it's clunky, but it can do most of what you are looking for.

(Mar 15 07, 11:44)It has some potential... I couldn't tell.. does staff have to enter all the tasks, or can I get clients to be able to request tasks directly and reduce that admin middleman step?

you can set different access levels for different people, so i'm sure you could allow clients to request and assign tasks, but that is so dangerous...

having clients assign tasks sounds like the 5th ring of hell to me.....

(Mar 15 07, 12:03)Well, all client requests would need approval/flagged to proceed. It's better than getting an email with the request and having to enter it every time by staff- just not efficient. Nor is losing track of endless emails of requests which is what is happening.

(Mar 15 07, 13:32)you'll end up getting emails anyway because clients don't like to follow a rule that's set for them. they all like to think they're special enough to require a personal email sent to the big cheese.

Basecamp is the best, imho.
No billing, but everything else seems to be quite perfect.I just got it a few days ago and feel happy!

I use Basecamp. it's pretty good, but as a previous poster said, it's near impossible to get the most important people to buy into it (ie: clients). The people you work with will probably greatly benefit from it - especially in highly collaborative projects.
There's always some kind of obstacle, though. Nobody wants to deal with a machine. They want to hand whatever-it-is-they-want off to another person to lessen the likelihood of their ass being held accountable if/when something goes wrong.

Gucci,
Depends what clients you're working with... If they're in the industry themselves, then there are no problems.
It's pretty intuitive and doesn't take too long before you can communicate.

Just tell em to write a detailed list or they aint gettin shit.

If you can do without the web-enabled client login system you might want to look at Daylite. It's multi-user and only for mac. There is some limited integration with Billings their invoicing timetracking app and also a module that links up with Apple Mail.
At the very least it might give you some ideas for your own custom-build system.
