don't care about that part of it. that's even more guessing.
Granted, besides radioactive dating, there are a lot of other variables and conditions that scientists consider in dating these beds. Guide fossils, etc. which occur in other places of the world but can be correlated to the GC stratigraphy. It's complicated.

at least it is being tested, that is my point.

Im too lazy to read all posts but the fact that politics and religion go hand-in-hand in the US Government makes me want to weep into my fifth large Heineken.
Take a lesson from the French and have them both separated by law.
:D

"Good evening. Here is the news on Friday, the 27th of Geldof. Archeologists near Mount Sinai have discovered what is believed to be a missing page from the Bible. The page is currently being carbon-dated in Bonne. If genuine, it belongs at the beginning of the Bible and is believed to read, "To my darling Candy. All characters portrayed within this book are fictitous and any resemblance to persons living or dead is purely coincidental." The page has been universally condemned by church leaders."

Good Lord. (no pun intended)
I consider myself a Christian. I go to Church twice a month (if I'm not too hungover) and I believe the Earth is a couple billion years old, and I believe the Universe was created by the Big Bang. Trust me when I say this, most Christians do.
mrdobolina do you know anything about religion? It's not like you walk into Church and sign on the dotted line and HAVE to believe everything in the good book or what they preach. Do you honestly think EVERYONE who goes to church does?!? It's really hard to believe you'd think that way. We're all grownups here man. Act like it.
Just like there are radical Muslims, there are radical Christians, Catholics, Lutherans you name it. Don't lump everyone into the same bunch. I'm sure you don't do it for muslims, why do you do it for Christians?
Just sayin.

Hi. Hope you all had a blessed Christmas!
I tend to think that the earth is extremely old. I'm also skeptical about the claims made in that article. Having said that, I do not discount the arguments raised, from Geological findings, from the Young Earth crowd. Some are just too compelling for me to just outright dismiss. You can learn about them here:

Also, see:

The bottom line on the Grand Canyon is that there are two views, both with compelling arguments:
1. Little water, lots of time.
2. Lots of water, little time.
It's really nothing to get worked up about.

the grand canyon is old as hell. it was not made in the last 6,000 years.
max, I know plenty of great religious folks with their heads on straight. I have no problems with them, what i do have a problem with is the lunatic fringe of any religion dictating policy.
- flagellum0
Poor mrdobolina is still equating faith in God with supersition. Somebody get this guy in Skeptics 101 class before he looks any sillier.
Meanwhile he hasn't stated what he believes about origins, etc...
conveniently.

Religion should not be dictating policy.
Saying the grand canyon is "old" doesn't make it so. Maybe if you were able to defend your positions, or if you demonstrated objectivity in how you arrived at them, people would listen to your opinions.

you will have a special place in heaven, flagellum.

you're right that i have no idea what i'm talking about. So, on with the playground rules!

The dating mechanisms used to date the Grand Canyon are flawed. Plain and simple.
There's not much more to say about it than that regardless of one's political or religious convictions.

did you just agree that religion should have no place in making policy?
- flagellum0
I did, yes.
But maybe I should have qualified that public policy whould be structured based on absolute moral convictions. Not the whims of individuals.
- mrdobolina0
agreed then. whats the problem?
