nicely done bg!!
I'm about to start working on turning the basement spare bedroom into a karate studio for the kid - should be fun!

Gruntt, orange is a counterproductive colour. It is proven that children writing a test in an orange room scores will be lower then the same children writing the same test in a room of any other colour.

(Jan 16 07, 12:42)note to self. do not conduct writing test on children in newly painted living room.

Well..it's "my space" in my parent's home.
I live in a very expensive town and turned away from the stress (and nice income) of the agency/studio environment towards the academic world. Little income means living at my folk's house!
Doesn't mean I can't make it look really nice though.

bg, that room looks great. My uncle and I are going to be renovating my Mother's basement. I priced out glass block windows last weekend (5 of them).
oy vey.

67 cents a sq foot pergo from Ikea baby!
The stuff is incredibly durable. Its the best color there too...the "expensive" finishes are hideous.
The entire 1100 sq foot floor was cheaper than just the carpet under-padding would have been!
You have to have a level floor...but you can save a ton of money and have it look worlds better than carpet.

we bought our house in March of last year. since then we've done (or had done):
- refinish hardwoods throughout
- exterior paint
- completely new front porch
- completely new kitchen
- tore down, removed crappy old carport
- interior painting (ongoing)
- landscaping (ongoing)
- 90% overhaul bathroomto be done:
lots and lots of stuff

Glass blocks are a nightmare. Insanely expensive and immediate age the project 15 years.
That said, the privacy and energy efficieny is excellent.
The Egress window (not shown) was the most expensive and tedious par t of the entire project. Damn you Ann Arbor code inspectors!

"You have to have a level floor..."

anyone done any work on a laundry room? gotta do mine soon and I've got nothing for ideas besides having room for a washer/dryer ;P
- bgheen0
Well you can easily fix that with some poured concrete and a Saturday afternoon.
- bgheen0
gabriel: definitely go with vertically stacked washer/dryer and use the additional space as a coat storage area...freeing up your existing closet for more useful storage.

where the hell is mayo in this thread? her and mr.mayo have done an amazing job with their home.

(Jan 16 07, 13:01)lol - i'm talking about the upper floor (wood). with basement underneath. not sure that upper floor would handle the weight! =)
- gabriel20
we've already got the standard side by side washer dryer, I'm mostly just looking for any creative uses for the rest of the room. wash basins, cabinets, etc...
- grunttt0
a laundry sink is damn handy.

ah well...uneven wood floring probably a lot of charm to it anyway.
I'm currently searching for a pre-1940's home to re-model. I'm really getting into interior design.

bg, I think we are going to go with the pre-fabbed glass block windows with the vent installed. So that should trim quite a bit of work off the job.
