Sanded and stained the floors, repainted the whole house and got rid of ALL the awfull MDF buil in cupboards the previous owner had.
Paid for a new kitchen and its the best thing that we ever did.

are you building that furniture exador?
- blaw0
i am currently building cherry trim for the first floor. it'll look like this:
we have forced air heating/cooling, so i'm building these custom air grates:
in fact, two of those are in the works right now.
i also recently built these little flower boxes:
... for the shed we build a couple of years ago:the big project we pretty much wrapped up over the summer was the main bathroom, which included building this vanity:
all that needs done is the solid cherry door i'm building, and the wood for that project is sitting in the shop as we speak.
two other big projects on the short list are building a bar for the family room and built-in bookcases for (what will be) our library.

blaw,
real nice work on the vanity. what type of wood is that?
- blaw0
hey, thanks, nearestexit.
the vanity is made of maple. the three main woods we use are maple, cherry, and oak. maple works well in that bathroom because there is only one window, so the blonde color helps brighten things up.

just painted my guest bathroom, not sure i like the color now though. and in staining a shelf i am building.
before that, new floors everywhere, no more carpet.
next up, new kitchen cabinets, counter tops and bar top..
but will prolly have to wait til after the new mac.
- blaw0
i hear the 'no carpet' thing. i've pretty much spill-proofed everything but the bedrooms.
dogs, cats, kid, beer-swilling me... we're all the better for it.

Hey blaw,
in the first pic, are those windows to the left of the door? glass block? or just some intense light from outside shining on the wall?
- blaw0
- mrdobolina0
that's rad blaw.
this summer I am going to glass block out all of the basement windows at my mom's crib.
I still live in my apartment but Im buying that house.
- blaw0
i wonder how hard those are to install? you'll have to let us know how that goes.
any project that has a hole in the side of your house in the middle of it grabs my attention!

no doubt, I have a friend who has done them before. It is amazing just how cheap the kits are.

we bought a 1940s brick bungalow two years ago. it used to be a rental so we've had LOTS to do to make it a little nicer:
gutted and added a half bath to the basement
rewired and replumbed the house
redid the main bath room when we first moved in and just did new floors over Christmas
landscaped
we had someone else redo the kitchen
painted every room
turned a coat closet that was made into a shitty half bath in the master bedroom into a cedar closet

(Dec 28 06, 16:32)3-to-1 white vinegar and warm water. dab w/ rag until soaked and then use second rag to soak it all up. let air dry.
all that manufactured shit sucks and is basically a synthetic version of the above combo. once it is in there and dried however, you may want to add a drop of mild dish soap like Dawn or Joy.
