google 'swfEncrypt' it compresses and encrypts the AS

dude, that banner ain't gonna get any smaller!
haha just jokin' i have no idea what you are working on but i've had to say that quite a lot lately!
also if you can publish out at flash 8 there is a better compression caps.
: )

preferably free

im using 8 pro...kind of clueless on doing this (compression wise i mean). played with the compression of the image...

okay, ill let the cat out of the bag.
this is what im doing:
http://paulhanger.net/cambridge/…
it's 44kb now, needs to be under 25k.........the image is being compressed from a 300DPI tiff...would saving that as something else help any?

re-import that image as a gif without at a lower color depth.

just as an fyi, that image is choppy as fuck yo.
don't scale or rotate it in flash. do all that in photoshop, and try and save it out as a png. although file size is bigger out of photoshop, flash can compress png files better...usually making the file size smaller.

okay, good to know, thanks, lvl.

first time doing flash ads!

i thought it was funny that i called you out on it without even knowing what "it" was!
haha, i've been doing a lot of those things lately : \
let me know if you need any other help. you got my email addy
- doesnotexist0
well making it a png didnt help anything really. the file needs to be less than 25k and without the image it's 20k...sooooo i have no idea what else to do. hmm.
- lvl_130
make sure any elements you use are movieclips and not graphics.
if you hav duplicate instances of a graphic it takes up 2x the size of said graphic...whereas if you use a moviclip and have several instances it will only load it once.
also you may need to change the compression setting on the png pic. double click in library, and change there. keep lowering the quality until it fits within file size. warning: most likely it will look like shit...but it is a banner after all so...meh
also another trick that sometimes works is save the image out of photoshop at like half (or whatever doesn't look too terrible) the size you need it and then enlarge it by 200% (or whatever you need it) in flash...may help

hmm ill try those options.

what are you using for the snowflake effect? If it's any of the prebuilt effects classes (mcTween, etc..) that's probably eating up a good chunk of that 20k you have without the photo.

That's funny, I am working on a banner too that needs to be under 30k. I've found a snow scrip that's only 6k in this file if you need:

Ok, so here's how to do it:
- Your cambridge logo is vector, that's prolly ur bigesst problem. Bring the shield in as a 12-color GIF and mask it out in Flash. The logo type you can probably leave as is but you may try exporting it out of Flash as a PNG, reimporting it into the symbol, guiding the vector layer, and then check to see if the PNG file size is smaller than the vector.- You're using a bunch of different fonts, each different font embedding a bunch of characters (Bold and normal are considered two diff fonts). None of your type is laying on top of everything, so bring each body of text in as a JPG or GIF. You can export it out of Flash, take a screenshot, or do it right out of Photoshop.
- Rotate and scale your book image to whatever it is in the ad in Photoshop. Export it as a JPG (Save for web) to whatever quality looks acceptable. Import it into Flash, and create a vector mask to create transparency around the image. To get rid of any pixel-shift pixelation problems, change Flash's render quality settings to best _quality="best";
You should easily be able to get this under 20k.
Cheers

theres no way that file should be under 15 or 20k, yeah re import that image after you optimize it in PS. watch your key frames too, never alpha to or from 0. the list goes on. there are many things you can do to bring that file size down and run smoother.
