http://www.novationmusic.com/pro…the x-station's sick...love it. don't make tunes as often as i would like though because my speakers suck....i realize now im going to have to spend a grand on decent speakers if i want to make shit proper

The Novation RemoteSL series are really good...
the fact that the knobs have an LED read-out what effect or parameter you are controlling is very useful. the knobs are also infinity knobs which is nice.

wish i had money to buy the RemoteSL...
im hardly feeling easy about shedding 300$ for this...

if you can, stay away from m-audio
look for novation, evolution, edirol, korg, etc.most of those have low budget options available and their controllers are solid as a rock.

I think it really depends on your skills as a pianoplayer.. I'm none for sure and very content with the radium61 by m-audio

meeklo, why do u say stay away from m-audio?

i've got an oxygen 8 and I been rockin it for like 2-3 years...
depends on what you want, do you want pads (like i do), do you want sliders/knobs, do you need to access more than 2 octaves without hitting a button.
do you even need keys? controller is a broad category.
look at the mpd16...no keys..just pads and sliders...

wait wait wait blackspade, i can't see the side text on the pads. can you please post a larger image?!
:D...fuck my internet connection is so slllllooooowwwww!

(Dec 12 06, 01:44)that is if you assume that midi controller only means piano keyboards. ;)

yeah i wanted pads, sliders nobs and octaves and something that looked cool...so i bought the axiom 49 ! still in the mail though so i can't really elaborate. great price range, heard great stuff and i wouldn't take m-audio critism too seriously if it fits...the other thing you might consider is an audio interface, which it doesn't have in which case if you're looking at an all in one
dis is cool

and novation is rather synth orientated

I stay away because I had an oxigen and a quattro when they came out, I had many problems with both.
I also used korg stuff for years never one single problem, personal preference I guess, nothing to do with piano lessons, in fact I never liked or played piano in my life.I use controllers to perform video installations too, knobs faders, vector pads and finger pads is what I'm after, but I do gig around 3 or 4 times a month, it's not much but moving stuff from the studio that much will affect your gear if its not well constructed.
you may use what you want just personal experience.

either way, (depending on your software) you can create much the same sounds on the cheapest midi keyboard as you can on the most expensive, as far as im concerned
if you dont need all the extra midi control stuff, and all you're after are some keys to play, then dont waste too much money starting out
Ive found the 'pads' didnt offer me any advantage over triggering drum samples just using the keys? still velocity sensitive etc. I guess playing live they'd be more usefull
- 3RR0R_4040
so Korg and others are better than M-audio...
blackspade, i thought about wat u said there about cheapest midi keyboard.. i wud need some controls.. i am not sure if i need pads if they work like the keys for triggering drums.. btw, i like ur audio work on ur site..
frankly, i am loving how cool Korg microKontrol looks like... but i just dont have that much money :(

(Dec 12 06, 20:18)that is probably my next one, saves me to bring a pad controller and keyboard, but I already spend a lot of money on a pelican case nad the korg wont fit!!!
