Has anyone found or used a *truly* easy way to do this. Something along the lines of mounting a disc and clicking an installer? A technique that doesn't require as much techno savvy mojo?

*bump*
All these bullshit bootloaders etc.
Is there just an install that works?

TonyMacOSX86. You don't need a DVD reader.
Unibeast (install latest OSX onto a USB drive), after installation run Multibeast and done.
You will still "techno savvy mojo" because you will need to deal with your custom hardware running on OSX. Apple doesn't make drivers for many things and you will need to find things like:
1. Your mobo DSDT files if possible
2. Your graphic card kexts, Nvidia or ATI injectors and possibly modifying some kexts as well with values for your card.
3. Find, audio, network/ethernet kexts as well or any 3rd party hardware you might have that's not supported by OSX.The best way is to build a machine from start that will be a perfect fit for an OSX. The other way around is going to require you to know how to modify certain things in order to make it work.
I would suggest you start here if you are building a new machine:

On the laptop I got for my missus to Hackintosh it was stupidly simple.
Dell Inspiron 1525 just took a bootloader disc then it installed Snow Leopard Retail, and everythign works out of the box. The only thing I needed to do was create a new Keyboard layout as it is different to the Mac one.
£150 for a Macbook with 2.2GHz Dual Core (C2Duo), 4GB Ram, 500GB 7200RPM Hard Drive was pretty good just over a year ago.
Oh, I think the Snow Leopard I used a slightly modifed one, with the common sleep issues solved by deafult.
