Witt, I agree with you, but alot of these fire-and-brimstone new fangled born agains seem to love to quote from the Old Testament and seem to worship a vengeful god and not a forgiving one. Just calling it as I see it.

(Dec 29 06, 07:13)Do you have examples of these "fire-and-brimstone new fangled born agains"? If you're referring to people like myself, please re-read my posts above. I worship the God of grace & mercy; however, judicial systems have never been about dealing out grace and mercy. They are inherently about dealing out justice. If they were all about second chances and unwarranted mercy, then there would be no recognizable standard for justice. The world would tumble into anarchy.
I don't want Saddam to die. I just think his actions have warranted that. I agree that the whole situation is FUBAR and that the best thing might have been for him to have been offed in that foxhole. I hope he finds grace (the eternal kind) before the end. Not likely, but not impossible.
None of us ever deserve grace. If you look up the definition of grace, it says "(in Christian belief) The free and unmerited favor of God". From the Latin "pleasing, thankful". I don't think I deserve grace any more that Saddam does.
Also, a note of clarification: the God of the Old Testament is the very same God of the New. There was the old law under Moses, which showed our lack of perfection and pointed the way to Christ, and the new law in Jesus that is the fulfillment of the old law. God doesn't change. We, on the other hand, re-interpret Him to suit our needs until there is no God but ourselves and no standard beyond that which we fabricate.
Just wanted to clear that up, hopefully we can all agree to disagree without ripping each others' heads off.

And there's a lot of SOB dictators around. I'm not saying he's a nice guy but the State condemning people to death is just something i oppose in any circumstance.
Witt
(Dec 29 06, 07:05)agreed. any killing on behalf of the people is still murder. consciously playing for God oneselves. I strongly believe that that is morally unacceptable.

Saddam is probably dead by now.
I don't feel any safer yet, and it 's still raining.
I guess I have to conclude that the axis of evil doesn't collapse like Mordor.

don't they watch westerns in the middle east? mutherfuckers cant even get a proper hanging right..
you can't hang a dude in private, either do it in the town square or put 2 in the head behind closed doors. but dont put out a presser saying, yo we hung the dude..

yes, very anti-climactic
drawn and quartered on public access, that would have been ideal
