thou shalt not kill.
so that is completely subjective then?

Such as, I could enter the phrase "Kill Bush", "I wish Bush were dead", "I hope Bush gets hit by a bus", "Assassinate" and the search results would return any and all users who have said those phrases.
Then I'd like to compare those usernames to the usernames in this thread saying "Save Saddam".
I wonder what the results would look like.

(Dec 28 06, 09:38)Murder and justice are not the same. Of course, Saddam might claim that his genocidal actions were justice, but anyone with a brain can see through that ruse. Murder is often committed in the name of justice. The arbiter here is only the reason and conscience of those meting out justice. In a justice system, I have always believed that the best punishment for crimes is crime-specific: you steal, you lose a part of your body. You rape, you lose your ability to procreate. you murder, you forfeit your own life. I would disagree with killing in any other circumstance, including war.
And before you say it, Dobs et al., if GW was put on trial for murder and found guilty by a court of law, I would have no moral or ethical objection to him sharing Saddam's fate.

if someone steals they should lose a part of their body?
fucking wow.

Looks like it will be videotaped, so yall can get together on a friday night, watch it, pray and do whatever else good christians do.
- gramme0
why not? It works in many other countries. People have more reverence for the law. You know, steal a TV, lose a finger...and so on.
I'm sure that sounds outrageous in the country that allows celebrities to go free when they have a mountain of evidence against them. I guess money can buy anything these days.

I think you're fucked in the head.

(Dec 28 06, 10:12)It's a shame that when you are bereft of a sound argument, you resort to sarcasm and insult. I personally don't care to see Saddam's death, I won't be shouting for joy, I won't throw a party. His fate, like his actions, is sad. Sad, and yet just.

Your divine vindication argument doesnt warrant a serious response.

I hope you are stoked when the reprisal killings begin.

your "justice" in action.

Look dobs, I believe in grace an second chances on a personal and spiritual level. However, I don't think that is the function of our justice system. If it were, we'd have even more criminals wandering around than we already do. For a justice system to work at all, it has to take the 'eye for an eye' mentality.
