>>I was kidding about the powerpoint, although in my opinon, the site is pretty dry, and I know that it can be pushed farther...Some "constructive criticism" includes:
a. remove intro (or shorten dramatically), increases load time, doesnt support any concept really, and gets cut off at the bottom
b. in Samples, increase size of thumbnails...work should be more prominent if this is a portfolio site...
c. body copy seems a couple pt sizes too large, maybe try the size of the nav?
d. remove motto section, just feels pointless to me

Note that shit Andy...note that shit...

why did you just post my comment?
- AndyRoss0
Is there any way to edit a post? Screwed up the last one.
a)Anyway, I will be removing the text intro.
b) SWF size issues were a consideration there.
c)I need a good suggestion on a font for the body copy. The nav is done in BitLow, which is Caps only. I didn't think Caps only would be good for body? Suggestions welcome.
d) A lot of people love the motto. (See earlier posts)...

Wendog,
I guess there's a word limit on posts? I ran out of room on the earlier post. I was going to quote your post, and respond to each point (some of which I agreed with).
But, when I posted, the second part wasn't there.
Is there any way to edit a post that's been posted?

sometimes it's best to be truthful than positive. Andy, you have to work a lot harder if you're thinking about making a job out of this. don't fool yourself - it's not easy. If you like this profession, evaluate your real assets, your talent (you can evaluate your talent by what's currently expected from a designer, e.g.) the time you're willing to devote to it and prepare yourself for a long ride. That's my honest opinion.

Christ Andy, I personally am torn about how to respond to this thread. Many a true word is said in jest, and a lot of the "jokers" who've responded have been bang on the mark I'm afraid. About 5+ years ago, that site would've been considered "cool"... but now, it's terribly "naff" I'm afraid. The intro, the music, the pixel font, the crosshairs, your name following the mouse (Jesus, come on!)... all the "cyber-era" cheesy shit has to go man!!
Look around you, look at other peoples portfolios... that cyber-style died a LONG time ago, and people will be quick to point that out to you, and mock you for not realising.
Don't be downhearted, the site is *fairly* well done, for what it is... it all works, it's there, and yeah... ok... but, the thing is, the whole theme/style of it is very very very dated, and you can't fix that with hints / tips from people here... If you really want true advice, you should probably rethink the whole thing and start again with a more contemporary look, IMHO.

Andy Ross, stop following me around...

A really helpful book that might provide you with some great ideas on how to mix it up a little in the grid department :
http://www.amazon.com/Making-Bre…I love that book.
- mr_snuggles0
fuck the grid Andy, Carson never knew the rules before he started to break 'em... and look how far that sort of thinking got him....

PLEASE leave David Carson out of this...PLEASE!
- AndyRoss0
OK. I dropped the intro, changed the font, and did some more fiddling.
It's got a bit more unity now.
Comments?

dude,
remove the music...
loose everythingtake away anything not essential (and i mean essential)
if you want good advice, that's it
strip it to nothing
and then work on good typography...that's what will make you shine
if you don't know much about typography, go to the library and get the elements of typographic style...it will save your life
it took me too long in my life to realize that libraries have tons of free books...use it!
keep doing it, but don't stick to what you have now...you are not done.
- MrShadow0
dude... you are not getting it.. its bad and your responses above prove you don't even get know what we re talking about.
i like your photography from your old site:
http://andyrossdesign.com/v1.htm…why dont you feature it on your new site? stick to photography if you want be in a creative field.
drop the andy ross logo with the swoosh alltogether... its really cheesy
dude - less is more - now contemplate on it.
good luck.
