Wow, couldn't have said it better myself. Nice find! Thanks.

Has a lot of those nasty historical facts. The revisionists here won't be pleased.

...
So you do believe that intelligent design should be taught in PUBLIC schools?
- PonyBoy0
shouldn't all 'theories' get fair play?
- flagellum0
flavorful: I don't think it should be required, but I do think teachers should be allowed to discuss competing theories. More specifically, I think teachers should be required to cover all of the evidence for Darwinian evolution. Both for and against.

exactly.
teach both, let the pupil make up their mind.
- vespa0
shouldn't science be taught in science classes and religion taught in religious classes? otherwise it seems like a bit of a smokescreen.
- flagellum0
vespa: if you can tell me what Intelligent Design has to do with religion, I might be able to see your point.

(Dec 18 06, 07:40)Maybe times have changed, but from what I remember of my days at public schools we never even covered Darwin or any theories on evolution. And if we did, it was obviously so insignificant that I don't remember it.
Is it really being taught that much in school?
Do any of you have children in school that are being taught this?
I know I don't have any kids right now, so my take on it all is I'll let the kids parents decide what's best for them, not some dudes on NT without any children trying to make decisions that will affect all children.
Doesn't make a lick of sense.

Evolution is science. That is why it should be taught in schools (at least public).
Intelligent Design is inherently flawed due to the fact it can not be tested.
Intelligent Design is based on a higher being ... of whom none belong in public schools.
Please also do not point to the 'Pledge of Allegiance' as an example where G-d is, in public schools. Kids do not have to recite it, remain silent or whatever. In a class where a grade will be given, it is immoral to demand a child learn about Intelligent Design.
- flagellum0
k0na: it was the same with me. I don't think we even touched on it at my HS. It's really more of a concern in the universities. However, from evertything I've read, it seems that there are a substantial amount of HS's that do require a thorough teaching of TOE.

flagellum you're typing in smokescreen right now. i deal with stoners every day, i see through the smoke.
intelligent design is the theory that says life was created by God. am i wrong?
- ********0
I learned evolution in both public and private schools.
I didn't learn some crackpot theory about Intelligent Design.

flavorful: that of course is all uninformed nonsense. First, Intelligent Design is not anti-Evolution. Evolution meaning: change over time. What ID challenges is the Darwinian Synthesis that claims that undirected, blind mechanisms accidentally produced complexity. This is not science. It is a narrative that is untestable and unsupported by the evidence.
ID can be tested - we can test irreducible complexity of biochemical machinery, for instance. By removing components and watching the machinery break. This, according to Darwin himself, falsifies his theory.
ID says nothing of any higher being. You are conflating the science with it's implications. There are ID proponents who are agnostics. Many of them are. ID simply states that there are patterns in nature which are best explained by intelligent design. Period.
What is immoral is denying children a complete unbiased education. Hiding the facts from them. This is what is thoroughly unethical.
- vespa0
flagellum is intelligent design the theory that life was created by God?
- flagellum0
vespa: no sir. You are thinking of Biblical Creationism. Intelligent Design is the theory that patterns in nature are best explained as the result of a designing intelligence.
