i know you are trying to avoid cliché's like a hand or a roof, or even both, yuk.
with good reason.
do remember you are designing for a large audience, not just for the clever bunch.
even though, i must admit, that a lot of people in the UK are pretty savvy when it comes to interpreting design and they don't accept easy icons for lunch.
(and hereby i contradict my very statements yesterday that scared vespa away from nt forever..)

Good skillz on the logo snuggles, I like it though am not sure if it works with the broken line (which to me negates shelter) going through the photo. I just can't see how it implies "gimme shelter" from that personally. How would it look even just the Logo a little larger placed in a corner? Meh its my 2p worth. Dam good show though Captn!

i dont like it.
The logo is woteva, but the copy on the flyer I dont like at all. I know this is all "serious" and everything - but end o' day, we're still promoting a gig.
As poster for a charity to make you "stop and fink" it's fine - but i think it should focus on getting people through the door to party down!! innit??

yeah, font is looking like courier to us, which i doubt is what you intended!
i like the logo - version without the broken line - it suggests a very simple concept of shelter to me, a lean-to or something, which i think is a good reduction of it, to the very smallest visual meme. this prevents it looking too gimmicky. imho.
i also like the idea of the strike-through on the poster, but sort of agree with kuz that it will need to look 'more fun'. also, you're not going to be able to get away with minimalism on this one, i don't think. the club and the band are both pretty baroque institutions, so some cluttered playfulness might be in order.
