Anyone here ride a bicycle? I'm looking to buy a bike and start cycling to work for exercise and so the oil companies can suck it. But I haven't owned a bike since I was 15 so I don't know where to start, anyone have an opinion on the subject?

biycycles haven't changed since you were 15. Unless you're 165 years old in which case, penny farthings are out of fashion and both wheels are the same size now.
Also, wear a helmet.

I used to race road bikes in 8th and 9th grade. Then got a guitar for Christmas and it all went downhill from there!
I miss riding, saw some new road bikes at a store recently and was trying to figure out if I should buy one and get back into it.
But when I did it before, it was in the country in Texas, safe roads, no traffic. Here in Chicago, I could never get the kind of ride in that I was used to, too many cars, stops, people, bleh.I used to ride 175 miles a week in 9th grade, best shape of my life. Would come home and ride 25 miles a day training.
I miss it! I honestly think it was the one thing in life I put the most dedication into.

It was ace fun to ride to work because I was able to take the dirt track instead of risking the road

I ride a road bike everyday for an hour. 30 minutes to and from work. Fixed gear bikes are a little scary for me though. ALthough the cool™ factor is definetly there...

I used to race BMX. And had a Robinson Pro, shit was sick.
I would fly all over town in that thing like a g-ddamn nut bag.
This was after my pink bike, of which I pimped out for a few years beforehand.

get a junker for commuting. i'm sure after a couple weeks, you'll be right back to the LBS for a new merckxx. :) and you sure won't be taking that to work.

175miles/week, that's a lot of riding. if i ride that much in nyc, i'll probably get a lung cancer from inhaling too much pollution.
tour de france is 2200miles over 3wks and those guys ride like 5-6hrs/day.

All I thought about back then was the Tour de France! That was when Greg LeMond was winning, a big inspiration to me then.I was in the best shape of my life back then, did all the cycling, played football, early teens, was in the off-season training program at school. I bet my legs were bigger then than they are now!

I try to ride about 3 times a week. I've got an old GT mt. bike, full suspension. Been thinking about getting a newer one. Any one have any issues with getting one off ebay?

(Aug 15 06, 07:53)I bought mine off ebay but I went to collect it so I could check it out before paying for it. I'd probably suggest it's worth going for one you can collect if poss.
