I got a hybrid/city bike and commute 18km to work and back. has fairly skinny large tyres so it is quick on road and straight bars and slight tread so i can cut through parks and do light trails. and jump the occasional curb without worrying about buckling the wheels. SOmething like this:

what's the pros and cons of straight bars?

I cannot believe that there are bikes worth 7k. That is unbelievable. I keep thinking that my $700 limit buys me the lowest end bike! wtf!

wish me luck! I am going out to test ride some!

How about one of these bad boys?

I tried riding some Trek bike but couldn't help but to think that the bike was for starters. Is Trek a good brand? The bike was about $475.

nice ride. are u just using it for commute?

Yep, the guy at the bike shop told me I should switche the tires to something with a smoother tread because it will have less resistance on pavement.

look at the profile of the bike. if your hands are lower than the top of your seat, you are going to be uncomfortable long distance.
riding position is key.
anything can be made a fixed gear.

I don't think the guy at the bike store was very helpful so I ended up passing on the Trek bike. I also am having a hard time spending $500 on a bike when I see other for $700 and up. I don't want to end up hating thebike and wishing I spent a bit more money for one that is better.

what's with these spokes? are they better than the normal I am used to?
- tkmeister0
i think the difference is slim between $500 and $700. some minor components difference. you aren't gonna race, so it really doensn't matter much.
you can brag about it to your friends about small components difference, but i think it all comes down to the riders performance.
i'd say read up on the review sites. they have great suggestions and what you should be getting.

"this is my bike. you can def tell it's old by looking at components.
