The coffin count—does it mean anything?
Nassarallah said:"Israel's weekness is their regard for human life. Muslims are happy to die for martyrdom and that is why we will win". They are operating from within civilian villages so the IDF will have a hard time targeting them.
Let's not forget that this conflict started with unprovoked kidnapping of soldiers from the Israeli territorries and shelling of the Israeli town of Kiryat Shemona (civilian target). I've been housing refugees from the north for the last weeks—my sister's family. So, as much as I feel for the Lebanese—I see no choice for Israel.
There were more soldiers and civilians killed in Iraq during that period (since the start of the Israeli Lebanese conflict), with no missiles falling on British or American cities.

i guess the coffin count means that what Nasarallah said is bullshit - Israel doesn't have any regard for human life, at least Arab life.
The IDF even massacred UN workers, after receiving 11 distress signals!! Thats crazy
And today they killede 40 Lebanese civillians, including 20 children in South Lebanon!
Fucking hell they're blood thirsty the Israeli's are.
Also, Hezbollah triggered the conflict by kidnapping the Israeli soldiers. They didn't fire rockets into Israel until after Israel declared all out war.
Also 10,000 Palestinian and Hezbullah prisoners are being held by Israel, for almost 30 years without trial or anything, and the Hezbullah raid was aimed to try and release them, a fair prisoner swap.
But mighty proud Israel decided to flex its muscle instead.

Yep, i've just checked my facts.
Hezbullah never fired rockets on Israel until after Israel declared total war on Lebanon. All they did was a crossborder raid to free some of their political prisoners. In response, Israel unleashed hell.
I dont understand why the Israelis can't call for a ceasefire.
Hezbullah and Lebanon both want one. You can iron out a peac situation since then.
But I think the root of the problem goes back to what was happening during Israel's withdrawal of Gaza.
The Likud and the Zion base would never allow a bilateral peace settlement, because they were determined to take over masses of Palestinian land in the West Bank and ALL of Jerusalem. So they proceeded to destroy the PA whilst blaming Mahmood Abbas for not having a hold on security. And they continued to destroy his security apparatus claiming "theres not partner to peace". Obviously they didn't want a partner to peace.
The result of this was Hamas got elected. Israel used this as an excuse to strangle the Palestinian people and push them to the verge of poverty (you know what's happening in Gaza right now??).
As a result Hamas lost control of its militants who staged rocket attacks into Israel and eventually kidnapped Shalit. In response Israel went about destroying Gaza, or whatever they had left standing of it.
And then Hezbullah kidnapped its soldiers.
I don't know what the solution is, but i dont think its fair to act like Israel is all innocent. It antagonises its neighbours and its Arab populations all because the Judaeo-Jihadists who founded that state can't accept that other people apart from the Jews have a right to live in that land, and i'm talkig about places like Jerusalem and Israel proper.
The only solution is a comprehesive peace. Which means a fair and just one that doesn't impose an apartheid system on the Palestinians, and isn't based on ethnically cleansing Arabs from Jewish lands.
Israel seems more and more like a failed state.

Rockets did fall before Israel launched the campaign.
They fired rockets on kiryat shmona while the kidnapping was going on—to create a distraction—damaging houses and causing trauma. But when rockets fall on Jews I guess it's not a big deal for the media.
So Israel fires back—Israel has better weapons. If you hit someone—they might hit you back.
Hizb'alla are not an official army, yet they are operating from within a state. The Palestinian prisoners are not their business, just an excuse—Hizb'allah are the imperialistic arm of Iran. I'm upset about the way the French and Spanish treat the Basques (some of them are in jail, as well)—You don't see me bombing Strassburg.
One of the soldiers in that UN post wrote two days earlier to his commander, warning him that the terrorists are acting from within their camp and he feared for his life when Israel retaliates.
Besides, the UN soldiers were there to prevent the arming and fortifaction of the Hizb'allah (in accord with the UN resolution)—If they would have done their job, this conflict would have never started.
I am an Israeli and I don't consider myself blood thirsty. However, listen to Iran's president.
While I agree with a lot of the criticism about Israel's policies in the occupied territorries, I think some of the reactions in the world are automatic.
Israel cannot agree to live with constant threat from the North, without being able to retaliate just because it's not the Lebanese army targeting Israel, but the Iranian sponsored militias that overtook that part of the country.
- ********0
Well that is true, Iran and Syria are playing a game to divert attention from their own problems.
And fucking hell, that Iranian president is freakin crazy. His whole shtick is that the messiah will return to the earth only when there is chaos. Absolutely true, this is what he believes. He goes to the UN and talks like there's a halo surrounding him. He's actually part of a Shia cult that is trying to hasten the return of the messiah. So chaos in the Middle East is exactly what they wants.

but Israel's problems with Hezbullah go back to the 1980s... Then they invaded to push the PA and Yasser Arafat out of Lebanon and into exile.
That policy failed as Arafat died in Palestinian territory.
Now they invade to drive Hezbullah out. That will also fail.
The only real solutio is a comprehesive peace settlement with the Palestinians. I think it's naive to think that those living north of the Litani river have no concern on what goes on betwee the Israeli's/Palestinians.
After Hezbullah drove Israel out of South Lebanon, and were hailed as heroes, crossborder skirmishes are day to day reality of two parties that never declared peace. I'm sure Israelis cotinued to attack Hezbullah positions ad cotinued to hold their memebrs prisoners as Hezbullah fired Katyusha rockets into Kiryat Shmona.
It's an ongoing 60year old drama. But Israel's resonse in destroying Lebanon... I mean I can understand the outrage, but still... this is only strengthening Hezbullah.

Wednesday, July 12
Hezbollah fires a pair of rockets into northern Israel from southern Lebanon, and guerrillas capture two Israeli soldiers during an attack along the Lebanese border between the Israeli towns of Zar'it and Shtula. Eight Israeli soldiers also die in fighting that day. In response, Israeli ground, air and naval forces attack at least eight Hezbollah bases and five bridges in southern Lebanon.
- laurus0
While I agree on the Palestinian issue—That is not what's driving Iran or the Hizballah. And most Israelis are pro a Palestinian state, even in the Likud.
If you think Israel is what's on their mind you are naive. They call the Europeans crusaders. They have already started world war III, and they know Europe will gladly sacrifice Israel for a few more years of calm (poleticians always think in short terms, their terms)—but Europe and US are next and they are openly saying it.
The fight now is not about Palestine. It is no coincidence that this started the day the UN ultimatum to Iran ended.

do you actually believe that bombing the hell out of lebanon will work at all ??
how can you say that its a meassured response when almost up to 600 lebanese are dead and half the country has been bombed ?
please tell me how did Hezbollah begin ??, i think it was after 1980 when israel invaded lebanon...., what makes you think that something similar wont happen this time around, you've destroyed their country and there's a whole new generation that surely hated you before but now they have even more reasons to hate you.
and btw, i'm not with either side and i hate it that many people think that not supporting israel means supporting the terrorists.
