bush isn't the only one that didn't allow the funding right... i heard it waas pretty much every other country.. and bush veto'd the funding not the research.. if its so important shouldn't the private companies fund it themselves instead of tax payers? Maybe when the private companies fund it and get enough results then it can go through the gov't...?

I think it's one of those things that deserves federal monies, it's why the NIH was founded in the first place, to support pure research, not commerically applicable interests.
It would be nice to know we're still optimists at the highest levels of government. Still interested in humanitarian pursuits, other than war profiteering and looting the federal coffers.
