Letters: He wasn't allowed to the ceremony because of his red card! "No player may enter the field of play again once sent from the field. This includes after the final wistle has been blown"
I would have loved to have seen the cup in his hands...still love ya zizou

I liked Zidane, but as stated before, he should have known better.
captain of a team, only minutes aways for PK where his presence is precious in the goddamn world cup final.
wtf was he thinking?
- clint0
nice overgeneralization there, asshole.

(Jul 10 06, 02:34)ha ha you make me laugh.
so chanting all germans or french during respective matches are "Vaffanculos" doesn't represent overgeneralization? and very nice, because you think we don't undestand italian?
there, mascalzone.

had France won the penalties, people would've been talking about Materazzi cuntish niple tweaking more than the headbutt.
But they won and you don't argue with the winners.

Hey, I was rooting for Italy, glad they won, but Z's headbutt was a headbutt of beauty. Stunning technique, came out of nowhere, Materazzi didn't see it coming, packed a nice punch.
Had more respect for Z after that. Whatever my career is that I retire from I want to go out giving a headbutt to an asshole too..it'll probably be some guy named Ted from Accounting, but it'll be a killer headbutt as I walk out of the room...
Oh yeah, Viva Italia!!

Zinedine Zidane has been awarded the Golden Ball as the best player at the World Cup despite his sending off in the final on Sunday night.
The France legend, playing in his final match before retirement, was dismissed in extra time for headbutting Italy's Marco Materazzi.
The voting for the award was carried out at half-time in the final, which France went on to lose on penalties.
The 34-year-old topped a of poll journalists covering the event ahead with 2,012 points ahead of Italian pair Fabio Cannavaro (1,977) and Andrea Pirlo (715).
Zidane was disappointing in France's opening games and was suspended for their crucial final group match against Togo.
He returned to give match-winning performances against Spain, Brazil and Portugal and had hoped for a glorious career finale in Berlin.
That was on course to happen as he netted the penalty that gave France the lead but Italy responded to take the match to extra time.
Zidane had a great chance to win the game when he forced a fine save from Gianluigi Buffon with a header but the last memory of him on a field was him charging at Materazzi and headbutting him in his chest over a comment made by the defender.
Despite his indiscretion, he will be regarded as one of the game's greatest players having inspired France to success at the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000

TheBlueOne spot on, my thinking.

(Jul 10 06, 02:46)Not true. Read the FIFA regulations. The field of play is different than the awards ceremony. It just so happens that they hold the awards ceremony on the field, which does not have to be the case:
Sending-Off Offences
A player, substitute or substituted player is sent off and shown the red
card if he commits any of the following seven offences:
1. is guilty of serious foul play
2. is guilty of violent conduct
3. spits at an opponent or any other person
4. denies the opposing team a goal or an obvious goalscoring opportunity
by deliberately handling the ball (this does not apply to a
goalkeeper within his own penalty area)
5. denies an obvious goalscoring opportunity to an opponent moving
towards the player’s goal by an offence punishable by a free kick
or a penalty kick
6. uses offensive or insulting or abusive language and/or gestures
7. receives a second caution in the same match
A player, substitute or substituted player who has been sent off and
shown the red card must leave the vicinity of the fi eld of play and the
technical area.

It's all based on a edited replay! Refs didn't see anything. So now we must have at least 22 cameras. And the P against Australia would also not be given.
So FIFA ("conservative pricks") get the Football business in this century.

*Stops back into thread. puts finger along side nose, crooks it a bit. looks around, making sure everyone is "behaving themselves". Certain people don't like certain things being said in this thread if you know what I am saying. Certain people might have to be taken for a ride for some education.

I dont know what you mean, and I hope you not defending Zidane´s attitude!?

Zidane is probably one of the more elegant players that i have seen in my very young futbol loving life, but i have to question not only his competitiveness but Henry's as well. If you compare them to the greats in other sports, i.e. Jordan, Magic & Bird of Basketball, Gretzky, Lemiuex of Hockey etc...i cannot see those players doing what Zidane did on the biggest stage (especially their last game). Their mental toughness would be unscaved by players like Materazzi. Its a true shame that he let him get in his head or was even disturbed by him. If Zidane is considered to be one of the best, he should be stronger mentally.
As for Henry, another very talented player shouldn't have taken out of the game...i don't know if it was by request or his coaches decided so...if requested, he has to play through his fatigueness, if ordered, he should refuse to leave. I just cannot see Phil Jackson taking out Jordan or Jordan asking to be taken out.
just a bit dissapointed in French's star players as they dominated the ball in the second half and looked like it was a matter of time before they would score, but Italy weathered the storm...congrats to Italia!

Don't even think about comparing Zidane with Jordan or some cunt hockey player that no-one outside of the states has ever heard of.
What the fuck is wrong with you people?
- designerror0
I just read in the paper that Materazzi called him a terrorist, referring to his algerian background and being a muslim.
What a fucking lowblow!

Best moment of the world cup.
- valentim0
what paper?
- jondj240
but great players are great players so they are bound to be compared with each other no matter where they play or what sport they play.
fact of the matter is Zidane let his mental guard down when others wouldn't have.
