scaling w/o distortion

yeah i think a higher resolution image/ set to BEST is probably right.

my only guess is that after you resize the SWF positions the image in an absolute position. IE instead of x = 99.21 it positions the image at x = 100 to avoid the disortion. Now that is only a guess. the only way to be sure of it is by viewing the source!
another thing might be that the image is in really high resolution 150+px and when you resize the quality of the SWF is set up to MEDIUM (that is why you see the pixelation and allows the animation to play smoth) once that is over the movie is set up to BEST.
Again that is another guess.

I don't think the tutorial addresses the issue of scaling down a bitmap image without distortion.

yeah the picture of the chick, it's pixalated for a split second then it smooths out.

white box shouldn't distort regardless of how big you make it :)
