I was wondering who here is considering a career change or what fields you would be interested in besides design.
My second choices are psychology, real estate, environmental science, etc.

is graphic designer to motion graphics a career change?

I am on the edge of a career change. I went back to school for my teaching degree. I'm trying to get a full time teaching gig for the fall. Until then I shall continue to look at a monitor all day.

FUnny you should ask...i was just thinking this morning about how i'm going to reach the end of the line and the end of my patience in a few short years. Feels like everyone around me works less and has more fun.
Maybe its just one of those mornings though.

I went from full-time interactive/flash designer to full-time marketing/print design for a hospital system.
less exciting, but the chicks are HAWT.

Canuck let us know how it goes, as i've been considering going into education for some time now.
My roommate is a school teacher. Watching her get 2.5 months off is making me sick.

I need a career before I can change it.

Partly why I am going into it. Summers off, and then all the other holidays (probably equals maybe 12 weeks a year off).
Plus you only have to teach for 5 hours. Granted you spend the remaining 3 hours marking and developing lessons, but after a few years you'd probably be able to just re-use material.
Pay isn't the greatest for teachers in the US. It's not bad here in Canada, and the pension plan is pretty ace. I really want to teach communication technology down the road, however I have to go back to school for some extra teaching qualifications.

teaching to have 12 weeks of vacation really misses the point srlsy.

good luck with education.. I'd suggest higher education since its low on stress. my girlfriend teaches 8th grade.. I'm glad I'm not a teacher, I wouldn't have the patience or tolerance for kids these days.

(Jun 21 06, 09:46)No kidding. On my placement in a class of 30 at least 5 were on medication for behavior disorders (these were 10 year old kids). But those 5 aside, it was a fun time.

photography, this is very interesting. anyone get out of design/computers to get into something more physical like painting or sculpture or photography?

yep.. I've heard the stories.. she's social studies/special ed so she handles quite a few kids that are hard to handle. Not sure about things up north, but its a real pity parents even encourage their kids to be obnoxious brats these days.

If I won the lottery tomorrow and never had to work again...I would quit my job and go back to school to become an architect.
Always loved architecture...

(Jun 21 06, 09:46)True, but almost every grade has differences. Kids are always hyper until about grade 10 when they get lazy as shit and have attitude about everything or suck up all the time. The major problem is the parents. Most of the time they'll blame the teacher for everything.
And then university is pretty good, but students are either smart or BELIEVE they are smart. I can't stand the students in my class who want to argue with everything the prof says because it's more allowed in university. It's nice that they seem passionate, but a lot of them just believe they are smarter than the prof and everyone else. or they love to hear themselves talk.
*whew
felt good to get that out.

jevad, that's cool.
i loved architecture and still do. but profession itself made me dislike it so i left. now i am just an appreciater.
