Fallen humans like to take concepts that are rooted in truth and make pagan religion out of them. We like to put a face on nebulous things.
This tendency doesn't negate the truth of the original concept.

If you go to the source which introduces the concept, you find that it is completely different from the anthropomorphized nonsense that people invent.
But most people are comfortable just accepting the caricature. And then dismissing it.
