Nac,
I was taking a stab at christianity and the concept of 'faith'. christianity is full of all kinds of things that do not exist that people have 'faith' in.
Show me a sin. Show me the kingdom of heaven, show me hell, show the father, son, and the holy spirit. They cannot, but they have 'faith' and this backs up their side of the argument. An argument that after a while shows up in politics and effects people who are on the opposite side of theat 'faith'.
My wish wasn't to be arrogant, it was to make an example of that ridiculous reasoning that some groups exhibit and that leads to laws that are do not serve groups that are really just minding their own business being themselves.
As far as your tattoo what about leviticus 10:28?

The irony of this whole thing is that nobody is trying to force gay marriage on the American people...this bill is a ridiculous red herring that is effectively distracting us from the many, many, many f*ckups of this administration.

and even as a Lutheran Christian.. i don't try to impose my beliefs on people, because i keep my faith for myself..

I can see how people would think that homosexual marriage would undermine the hetrosexual marriage.
Just seems like sticking two fingers up to conservative people who regard it as really important to them. Imagine if they didn't call it marriage but the muslim word for a union, people would go fucking nuts.
Personally I think the fact no one goes to church (well in the UK at least), and that priests already do a very good job of undermining societies morals, that people just don't give a toss.
I guess I have difficulty in deciding whether the 'rights' of one group of society should be put above the rights of another group in society, no matter what their opinions are.
Personally I wish they'd come up with a new word for it then we can all move on. I'm getting married soon, but you'd have to drag me backwards to get me in a church. So maybe I shouldnt call it marriage...
good idea for a thread: new word for marriage

It's 19:28...oops!
Leviticus 19:28, which reads,
“Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.”
- flagellum0
I don't impose my beliefs. I state my position and why i hold it.
And whoever quoted Leviticus in the Bible... please stop. Quoting Old Testament scriptures which died with the Levitical and Ceremonial covenants, only displays a gross ignorance about how to interpret Biblical Covenant theology.
Plus it makes you sound like the silly writers of "The West Wing". Gotta love it when hollyweird tries to approach Bible interpretation. :)
OK OUT NOW! BYE!

I agree...I don't watch the west wing but I will slap a one week moratoreum on myself for posting that.
I hope this thread will still not be here.

flagellum, admit that saying that being gay is a behavioral choice is an assumption.

what's funny... if you really do your research... you'll see that 'hell' isn't a real place... The Bible never speaks of an eternal place like hell - the bible says that when you die... you go back to 'dust'... aka - worm food.. then dirt...
So gay folks can't 'goto hell' if that's where they're supposed to go... or something...
- mrdobolina0
once you admit that you have no proof that being gay is a choice, your argument becomes very evil.

it may seem tangently related, but any physician will tell you that homosexual intercourse wreaks havoc on the human immune system and leads to disease. It seems that we are not designed for it.
Don't get all hating, now. That's simply a medical fact.

(May 18 06, 13:29)Sorry, I'm not buying that one.
Actually preganancy also wreaks havoc on the immune system and the body in general. Also, in norway , women are entitled to as much as 52 weeks’ paid leave (compare that to 6 weeks in the US). Sounds like a pretty healthy place for babies. But I also am just irritated that republicans are bringing this issue up now. It’s like during the last election, when we had all of these terrorism alerts in nyc. It’s a calculated distraction.

ponyboy, you must see what I am saying.
The guys argument is based on the fact that homosexuals aren't naturally occurring and that it is some sort of sinful choice.
I hope he has a gay kid.

I was going to ask him that--what if he had a gay kid? I'm sure he has some slippery answer for it
