Has nobody here heard of the horrer stories about working at CPB?

do tell...

While I really want to hear the horror stories because that sounds like a cheap thrill, it is so major that they are moving to Boulder. Between the new creatives that will be in this town and the fact that this is just a sign of bigger things to come, this will only bring good things to Boulder.
Boulder has been such a design outpost for so long, maybe this will be the impetus for someone to open a decent design bookstore in the town.
When do they actually open an office? Anyone from CPB on this thing?

I'll second that.
and same do tell. My friend illustrated all the virgin stuff and haven't heard anything too bad. Of course he was a contractor and very talented so maybe he was cut some slack. Let's hear the stories of horror...

Imagine your worst ad agency hours times two. A couple of us in our midst, some of the top dogs in our design field have interviewed with CPB.
Here are a few things you should know.
1. During the interview of BOTH of my friends, they literally asked tje, the follow: "Do you have a wife, dog kids?" "Well you might as well forget about them because here at crispin we work long hours and work hard and you prob wont see them much"
Usually I would ignore this, but I have heard this same story from many people.
I have worked with CPB on projects and everybody I have worked with that works at CPB say they pretty much work Crispin hours... morning till bed. In fact they said most of them sleep at work most of the time.
2. Crispin runs over the people they partner with.
Many agencies and freelancers will not work with them. Even Natske has had a splash page up for a while cussing out Jeff Benjamin, one of the people behind the madness. Pretty much Jeff has stolen many ideas from people including Natske.
Crispin is also known for getting agencies in poor areas such as mexico to do work for them for free, so they will have future opportunity with Crispin, then of course CPB dumps them after one project. This has happened many times.
They will spit their contractors out and leave them for dead like no other agency I have seen.
Well these are a few things that you should know about before getting tempted. yes you will work on cool things, but is it worth your life?

By now - if you work with CPB you get what you deserve. They are the worst possible people to work for and with. Imagine the worst client that you've ever dealt with - now imagine that they had an ego that knows no bounds, and on top of that, have no sense of reason. Now imagine that that client hit a grand slam on their first at bat, yet has struck out every at bat since then. Then imagine that all the account directors are 20 years old and right out of college. Then you may start to undestand the hell that is working with/at/for CPB.

wow...you guys don't paint a pretty picture....

I'm blaming nic if i get fucked ;)

wow...oh...
CP&B is still great for the area, there has been little opportunity for high caliber advertising work here. If anything it may be a good training ground for freelancers to push the quality of their work and do more than extreme sports advertising.
It's funny how part of the vernacular their work is though, I was having lunch this weekend and this 50 year old dad was talking to this other dad with all of their kids running around the store and they were laughing their asses off to the unpimp my ride ads, and it sounded like the one guy had watched all of the on the web. Pretty impressive saturation and reach.
As for the time committment, everyone should have a point in their career where they work harder than they think its humanly possible. Its the moment when you get good at what you do and accelerate your brain.
Being mean is bad though. :)
Kyle best of luck.

luckily I'm not desparate for work, I can feel it out. There are always two sides to the story.

very interesting. as with all things though, first-hand is always best. i wonder how much that attitude will evolve though w/ the front-range/CO lifestyle influence? the directors are clearly desiring it...

I already work insane hours so who gives a duck

don't believe the hype. CP&B isn't all that bad. Fame causes jealousy and you can't beat the accounts you will work on. Wait til you see what they have in store for Boulder.
- whatever0
Even if it is the craziest most insane place to work it would give you great agency experience and that is the one thing that Colorado does not have. If you want to be in advertising and make cool interactive commercials, CPB is really the only place to be in the area.
What will be interesting is when the various people who work there build up a client roster, leave, set up their own agencies because they are addicted to the lovely Boulder living and things get more interesting in this town and property values go up again :)

One of my biggest fears about coming to boulder was not finding challenging work. luckily those fears have already been proven unfounded, but you're right Whatever, it has to be good for the creative climate.

Oh and in terms of long hours expect them. Hell they even tell you that straight up on their site. Welcome to the factory. This doesn't just mean everything is handcrafted as the site says. This means long hours.

------------Well, my only argument to that is they have offered many jobs to many great people who have turned them down. I think jealousy is the last thing on our minds.

(May 16 06, 07:03)ok fine I take back the fame comment. The truth of the matter is CP&B in my experience isn't all that bad. Yes the Natzke rip did occur, but they have done some really fresh campaigns that have gotten people to talk about advertising. And that's what we all want right? They are good for the game and good for Boulder and I will leave it at that.
