Go Manchester, where there is a design studio every ten paces in the city centre! :)

Brighton = London-on-Sea
Bristol = West Country London
Leeds = London up northIf you want different then look at :
Bath
Cambridge
NorwichIt sounds like you want to avoid all BIG cities. Obviously the opprotunities are reduced in the places I've mentioned but it would be different

Thanks for your help guys.
Now I have to plan a little UK reconnaissance trip to check out some of the places.

has to be EDINBURGH!
5th biggest Financial Capital in Europe
Lowest Unemployment for YEARS since the Parliament opened here.
New 'Fashion Week' started this year - shifting the focus of the Scottish Creative Industries from Glasgow to Edinburgh.
If you are buying a home here its the 3rd best place for investment in the UK (not includign london)
Its not like any other city in scotland - very european and cosmopolitan
Amazing in the summertime, Fringe festival over August
Packed with toutrists all year round so very friendly.
People will tell you that Glasgow is friendlier - but theres a lot of scum through there lol.
Thats my arguements for Edinburgh
:P

Newcastle, Edinburgh (they're a bit nancy there, though) and..
..London. She really isn't that bad a city - there are decent wee pockets of small-town civility in the 'burbs - and you'll have access to all the anonoymous big city delights she has to offer too!

I would go with whatever Carver would recommend, as he is the best advisor one could ever have

all these plebs that are recommending places in the north are clearly forgetting that these places are in the north. its grim up north, everybody eats pie's, is racist and likes to drink warm beer and fight, they also like to live in rows of houses and wash in tin baths out in the 'yard', and when they come to London all they can do is sit on talk loudly about how "eee by eck int everyone miserable in london, nobody talk to ye do thee?" - thats right you fucking twat, nobody wants to talk to YOU because you smell of chip fat and ashtrays, and want to constantly moan about how Morrisons is so much cheaper than everything 'down south'
pile of cunt
