""There will be 2 to 3 million people hitting the streets in Los Angeles alone. We're going to close down Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Tucson, Phoenix, Fresno," said Jorge Rodriguez, a union official who helped organize earlier rallies credited with rattling Congress as it debates the issue."
I'm sorry, really, but is it me or does that just make them look really f'ing irresponsible and serve to welcome even MORE dislike of them?
Because geez, I figure if I really wanted something the best way to do it is to piss off the people around me and threaten to "shut down cities."
- Meeklo0
I agree..
- mrdobolina0
It is to show what will happen if they are deported, even though they wont be deported.
- Meeklo0
I guess their point is to show the nation what would be america like without inmigrants...
But closing streets or cities will piss people off..
I hope this doesn't turn violent..
- grunttt0
it's to show the number of people involved. enough to shut down a city by marching is a big fucking number. i say good for them.
i'll now back out this thread before it goes to 600 with pissing and fighting.
to each his own.

I agree with grunttt.

If they wanted to people to appreciate them, they'd do something really nice, like shut down a country, such as, oh, let's say Iraq...

Is anyone on NT staying home monday? The protestors are asking regular citizens to do the same in solidarity.
I will be working.
- grunttt0
they should all make a pie. each and every one of them and then invite everyone out for pie. then everyone would be like "remember when all of those imigrants had us over for pie? what a fun day. we should do that again someday. what? deport them? hell no. have pie with them? hell yes"
- F_180
i don't show solidarity with illegal immigrants. everyone that came during the immigration waves of the early 1900's came here legally. they signed papers, they accepted citizenship, they helped build a society based on shared resposibility.
the new wave of "migrant workers" are glorified border jumpers.
- grunttt0
but have you had their pie???
oh wait, that didn't really happen.... yet.

Funny you mention that.. back then it was probably that simple too.. you get of the boat, you sign papers on the dock and you are american. Time has changed, but all this people are about to get the same chance to signa a paper, accept citizenship and contribute to society without being marginated..

If crossing a border into a country with relaxed immigration enforcement and getting a job there to feed my family was the better way for my family, then I'd do the same. The risk is mine... I spoke with a buddy of mine who owns a construction company out here in Vegas and asked him how he felt about it. He basically told me that even though he's pretty sure that he has illegals on his payroll, he's done everything legal on his end. They came to him looking for work, they provided the necessary IDs and ss#'s, and he employs them. He says it's not his job to play detective and research all the documentation that they give him and try to discern which individuals are illegal and which aren't; that's the gov'ts job, which I think he has a point about. He also stated that he can't understand why the gov't is so adamant about this since they're taking taxes out of the everyone's checks anyway.

Ironic that the reason they can do this and have this effect is because they're permitted to come here in first place becasuse the USCIS and the state governments look the other way while they exploit themselves here illegally.

I hope they take off their May 1st Reboot splashes beforehand.

dude, I was going to say "why don't they bake funnel cakes for everyone else" but figured ti would be a little bit in poor taste.
- lusty0
i support them
USA need them as they need USA
they work as hard or more than a citizen, cause they work more hours, in the nighs in shitty jobs..
they pay taxes, even though they dont get them back, cause they use false ID's..maybe insted of getting them deported, they should give permisions for 2 years of work or something
so they pay taxes and return to their countries...
- mg330
Meeklo, you have a good point.
I get a sick feeling when they discuss people who came here before, and the "we're all immigrants" thing.
This is about illegal immigration. Someone from Mexico who applies for a Visa and comes here legally is not the person the debate is about.
They're like the Italian, the German, the Spanish person who immigrated here for a better life decades ago.

Hopefully traffic won't suck as bad getting stuck behind all those bad illegal immigrant drivers.
