please tell me the cost of living is at least cheap in holland
- mr_snuggles0
Amsterdam is reasonable for your most things other than housing and the taxes are insane. I think 40% of my income goes to taxes...
- e-pill0
40% is realy high!?!? i took that when i am freelancing just to be sure i have enough to pay my taxes.
damn snuggs, id be your customer if you opened a coffee-shop!!!
:)

sorry honest but no matter how dedicated you are to your art if you take on too much it will become expected of you, and other people will stop taking responsibility regardless of your job description. I admire your work ethic but there comes a point when you have to say that's not my job.
I don't think snuggles was being lazy, far from it. I think it's realistic.
As for me, I will never fucking proof read anything OR write any words. It's a nightmare 'just put something in about blah blah...' okay, so you don't have to think and then I'll make x amount of changes until you decide it fits in with your mighty vision that youre too lazy to even imagine you fucking fat lazy cunt!!!sorry, blood, boiling, much....
...and relax....

Quite interesting about proof reading. My last company blamed me for not seeing other peoples spelling mistakes. Then they had a right go at me not for mentioning I was dyslexic in my interview.

Chimpit's not your responsibility to check other peoples work!
What they don't have spell check?
Fuck em I say.

i always get sign-off which protects me against client blindness
- mr_snuggles0
My last studio dealt with a printer whom had a proofing department. They send back their catches with suggestions, then the production manager reviewed those changes and signed off. I would then double-check punctuation, etc and sign-off, then it would go to the client for sign-off. THAT is the proper way to deal with things...

(Apr 6 06, 10:38)I did, They weren't happy when I left. The MD said he was gonna phone up my land lord and tell him I was a liar! Fucking twats. all that shit for peanuts pay.
- joyride0
ummm... why would he call your landlord? And why would it matter. isn't that like, someone saying i'm gonna call your mom.
And I see both points, I don't think anyone in creative should be responsible for proofing. But, when I'm the lead on a project, i always try to look for errors. I don't have to, but i did. But it was not part of my job, but i did it for the team. Also, it was never a ton of text either, if it was i wouldn't have done it.

Proofreading and editing are things that can't be delegated to one person.
Everyone involved needs to have the right eyes to catch mistakes, and there needs to be a respectful exchange between them.
You reach a point where you've worked on your document so long that you just won't catch a problem.
I see no problem at all with a higher level person proofing, and it shouldn't reflect badly on the lower level person for making occasional mistakes that most people make. However, if you screw up "there, their, or they're," you deserve to have your buttocks paddled by the strongest man in the office.

My Roles:
Concept, design, pitch/meetings, dealing with suppliers, directing contractors/juniors, technical support for production team.Work: Web, ID, print, motion, special projects mark-up/scripting.
Salary: 50k
however, senior can mean a ton of different things.. I worked in an art department where the senior designer was a technical lead and never actually designed anything.
