A logo for my portfolio, so civilized. It'll need to be used in print and web.
I'm using the gold/tan color because I hope to use a metallic ink when I print, but that is obviously lost in vector.
I was worried that the "S" read as a "b" so I flipped it in the last set. Also, included numbers for reference.
Been browsing here for a while but never joined. Figure it's time to participate. Thanks in advance!!

logos for portfolios are overrated
- deadpixels0
looks alot like dos logos, but nice anyway

dangit - after a search it seems that logo you posted is a book by YWFT...I think it might be too similar... what do you guys think?
Also, if logos for portfolios are overrated, what should you put on your business card? Just plain text in arial to match your trendy 1-page online folio?

arial?

and if your worried about being trendy, you mght want to rethink that logo direction

did you just say trendy?

have you explored the route of looking at the term "so civilized" and what imagery it counjours up rather than just taken some of the letters involved??

its a trendy style so sure, you could get away with looking like Dos Logos.
but if you are going to call your company "So Civilized" i think the logo needs to be more than a SOC.

'civilized' congures up clarity(or readability). your logos are anything but, which is fine and I do like them, but you might want to expore a concept a little more.

sorry, trendy is probably the wrong word.
Anyway, the questions is, how do you distinguish yourself without a logo? I'm willing to scratch it if there's a good reason.
I've been through some different kinds of imagery for the logo, but ended up with just a logotype because I want it to be more of a heading that is adaptable to multiple concepts - rather than just one.

if it's your personal portfolio your work should distiguish you, typeset your name in a nice face and go with it.

(Mar 26 06, 14:43)i think a logotype could work great for your company name, and i would agree sometimes the best approach for portfolios/ studio names.
.. but abbreviated as "SOC" (?) it doesn't work for me.
CIVILIZED is an attractive word, make use of the letterforms.

Ok, advice taken. I'll get back to work.
I'll be using this as a heading for freelance work and as a portfolio for finding jobs.
Didn't mean to step on any toes with the "trendy" comment. Thanks again!

no toes stepped on. : )
i guess your logo should really just fit well with the work that you do. it almost acts as a segway (especially if you are printing out business cards and handing them out) to introduce the rest of your portfolio.
